But, but... regarding young folks not watching baseball on tv:

The Red Sox tv ratings this year reportedly have been very strong...even with competition from Bruins and Celtics playoffs. I assume that includes more young people than expected.

Haven't seen any ratings stats in awhile but I'm sure it's still strong or even better.

Despite long games, and according to some sports radio hosts before the season, this was a team with absolutely no buzz at that time and supposedly little likeability.

But early attendance in many cities, I've heard, is an issue this year. Into the middle of May, I don't think the Red Sox have sold out even one game! They're all very close to capacity, but not 100% sellouts. Even opening day was listed at 36,000+...isn't a sellout over 37,000+?

....

ESPN's entire playoff ratings are up seven percent so far. Not sure about the other channels.

And Game 3 of Cavs vs. Celtics was up from last year.

So, someone is watching despite some saying the league is rigged and too many blowouts.

Day games like opening day have lower capacities because they tarp off those seats behind the triangle as the batting eye.

With all the LeBron talk, isn't the answer to this thread now obvious? Plus all the draft and off-season Celtics news again this summer will overshadow and suffocate the Bruins.

Is anybody really excited about any Bruins game next year? Celtics will once again have many anticipated marquee matchups.

And it seems Boston has not appeared in any top 10 viewing markets in the Final. I believe Boston had a 6+ rating for the NBA Finals the other night, narrowly losing to the Red Sox. Seems Boston hasn't even topped a lowly 3 rating in the top 10 markets in the Stanley Cup Final.

Overrated hockey town?

"LeBroston Celtics" they're saying now on local sports radio.

The Bruins will be lucky if they're overshadowed and overwhelmed by Celtics hype for only the next five years and not the entire decade.

Yes, I think so. Went out the other night to watch the Caps-Knights. Had to ask someone to turn on the Stanley Cup. I think tonight I'm just gonna stay home. It's kinda sad being the only person watching the Cup while everyone else is watching some muted movie on cable with subtitles.

I feel like that's a pretty weak example of why Boston's an "overrated hockey town." For starters, when a city's team is in the playoffs and has a legitimate shot (or at least it's perceived by the fan base as legitimate) of winning it all, interest drops steeply when the home team is bumped out. It's tough to watch when you think your team should be there. Anyone can relate to that. Second, where are you going that you had to ask to turn it on? Even bars/restaurants that I wouldn't call "sports bars" near me are playing the finals games for both the NBA and NHL and they always have crowds.

That said, I absolutely agree that the Celtics are more popular now than the Bruins. I'm primarily a Sox/Patriots fan (in that order). Bruins/Celtics (in that order) come in a distant 3rd/4th for me. However, I've paid a LOT more attention to the Celtics this playoff run because they are simply a more likable team. They overachieve (seems the Bruins do the opposite), they're scrappy (the Bruins seemed to get pushed around), they have an exciting young coach, and they don't seem to have stupid distractions (Marchand licking people?). It's easy to see why they're more popular.

Well I was responding to a point about the Stanley Cup Finals not being watched here. More people would rather watch GSW-Cavs for the 4th consecutive year than Ovechkin going for his first Cup and the insane fairy tale of the Golden Knights. You must not be a hockey fan if you don't find this playoffs to be worth watching.

That's just the nature of talk Radio for some reason, but the number of people actually watching was pretty similar this year. I haven't seen radio game broadcast ratings but I assume they are similar between the two as well

Are you sure they're young people watching the Red Sox?

I am 100% sure I see more tweets about the Red Sox than the Celtics and Bruins Combined. Also I heard the ratings are up 25% across all Demographics
