Not having been born into old, wealthy, land-owning and farming family businesses, I have to imagine that (as of 2008) the difference between the average tax burden in CA (#6) and NV (#49) of $1,823 might make a significant difference to many families. Even with five children back in the day, it would have fed us for three months or taken care of back-to-school clothing and other items.

It's so easy to be cavalier, Clarks. But we've already had those conversations, haven't we?

Mudgie, you have two bad habits, one is personal attacks, the other is jumping to conclusions.
A. Anything I have, I earned, I have no family money, old or new.
B. I do not farm, and the only land I own is my home farm, and a couple of ranches in Nevada.
C The numbers you mention might have meant something "back in the day" but 1800 a year is not much more than beer money today.
D, Clarks?

Who among us Californian's would go to another state's forum and belittle that state? None. Yet we get bombarded by those who for some reason feel it is necessary to trash California. And the usual anti-California chorus from Missouri and Arkansas make sure they throw their 2 cents in every day yet not bother to post on their own state's forums. What's wrong with this picture?
I don't get it either. When I log on to this site, it never crosses my mind to go into Tx, Mo or Ark. forums to tell them what I think is wrong with their states. I could but why? I only visit two state forums and I'm more negative in my home state; because I live here and no more about it. The other I am more positive in. I've only had issues in that forum with...you guessed it...out of staters At least one or two of those we deal with here, although not recently.

To paraphrase Reggie Jackson, we're the straw that stirs the country's drink.

Huh? How can you not farm and own/ live (which is it?) on your (grandparent's) home farm with ranches (often a euphemism for "farm" in the west) in Nevada? Have you frorgotten how proud you were to post a lovely picture of "your" cilantro field.

From a couple of days ago, Clarks:

I think I have my street cred.
You have no cred, Clarks -- the same Clarks that lives in SLO county, farms on the family land and has property in Nevada as well!

I'm sure to someone as cavalier as you are and with the same degree of family backing, $1,800 may be just beer money. To many of us who mustanged it (if you ever really served in the military you might know that means "pulled ourselves up by the boot straps"), that $1,800 could be damn near as inportant today as it was back then, perhaps more so, given the economy. It could be a mortgage, rent, car or several utility payments. That's nothing for many to sneeze off or waive as inconsequential as you did.

Your veracity is now nil so you can stop butt sharking me and creep back into your hole until you re-emerge with yet another identity!

Now run along, Clarks! That's a good boy!

Shoot Mudgie, you were starting to sound rational today, but, you could not hold that stick up now could you.

Let me add to your list of bad habits:
We know about personal attacks, which you avoided most of the day
we know about jumping to conclusions, which you are doing a magnificent job of. Ok, so let me feed you, Yes, I am Clarks, short for Clark S. Kent, I have an affinity for telephone booths and capes. I run a fine farm with a grand estancia, here, let me show you a photo;

But we need to add, constant references to military service. Mudgie, that was along time ago, get a life, oh, and spend some time in Missouri, it is a bad habit to hang out on a computer, talking mud about a state government that gave you a nice pension which you promptly left that state to spend.

A) That is mostly due to the federal taxes being taken out, but...
B) A lot of what is taken out of my pocket is due to various "fees", such as car registration (unbelievable cost in CA), $15 bucks a shot to go to a park, $25 when you buy a TV, and $25 to (properly) dispose of a TV, state gas tax, sales tax and on and on and on

I sure as heck hope we don't get into the state allowing local gov'ts raising their own taxes, as I've read that rumor before, or I'm pretty much going to be taxed 100%.
