This is the United States. I believe that everyone should have a CHOICE as to what type of coverage they'd like to have. Some might be quite happy with government funded health care, but I, for one, would not be. Been there, done that, and still paying the price with my overall health. When it comes to MY body and MY health, I want a choice.

I have an 11-year younger sibling I don't claim; not because he's a foreigner born in Japan but because he's MOD CUT. Having been born on a Naval base, he was given dual citizenship (he hated that for some reason) and at age 21 was required to choose between the two countries. Unfortunately, he chose the U.S. I'd have liked it much better if he'd chosen Japan. But I spoke the language much better than he did and he went the other way!

No, you cannot. I was born in Minnesota to parents who were not married. And my mother has not designated my birth certificate as public. Hence, you cannot see it and you cannot get a copy of it. The relevant law:
Confidential birth records

And even had my parents been married, you would still have been required to have 'tangible interest' in obtaining it:
Tangible interest

Fifty states, fifty different sets of laws. In Minnesota, as I have demonstrated, you cannot see my birth certificate per Minnesota law. In Hawaii, per Hawaiian law, you must have a 'tangible interest' in seeing someones birth certificate:
Hawai‘i State Department of Health

Where I live in Oklahoma is within the north east corridor but more border area. Its also sparcely populated, though the town of Cushing needs to let up the lawn police. We maybe have 9k people here, many in the surrounding out of town area. I go down a few blocks from my house and hit rolling valleys and trees and NO BUILDINGS.

But what I wanted when I moved was a place where I didn't feel like I lived in a foreign place. I grew up in the 50's in socal and that is utterly gone. But guess what? This place feels so much closer to it than anyplace I have been in socal that it does feel like I found home again.

I don't think OK is exactly being swamped either. The entire population of the state is less than the city of Los Angeles, and 2/3 of the population live in OKC or Tulsa. There is lots of trees and rolling hills and valleys and just plain space. And I notice that people who don't like the slow pace which you cannot fight end up leaving. Fine with me because I like it.

I'm all for telling people that OK is flat and full of dusty sand. That seems to be what most think it is already.

Give me a break. That post just showed that you have no idea what a single payer health care system is. In a single payer system, you can choose ANY doctor and any medical facility and it will be covered. In contrast, health insurers can restrict your choice. And no, you don't wait in line and there is no such thing as rationing health care. It is fact that single-payer health care will offer you more choices than anything you can get for a affordable rate on the market.

And your comment about the quality of living in the UK is more than poor. Admit it, the reason why right-wingers fear those things is because they work too good. I know not one European who would trade their health care system with the oens we have.

Don't be silly. You're not done with him and "people like him", or you wouldn't be spending the remainder of your old age hanging out in the California forum.

Well, the nuttery certainly isn't limited to the right. I've encountered more than a few people online (haven't met one in real life yet, though) who insist that McCain's birth status renders him ineligible to be President...

Huh, I think you got one. There are those, for whom, there is no choice, they cannot afford private health care, often for health reasons.

Lettuce say, (farmer joke there) that you become incapacitated for some reason, a stroke perhaps. You cannot work, you are say, single, or married to another incapacitated individual, it happens. No work tough to afford private healthcare.

So, now what do you do?

There are four million and more added each day Veterans, most of them are very happy with their socialist government health care, as are the active duty servicemen and women.

Never heard of this. I am in CA, and I am a practicing attorney. Perhaps MN is the exception. In CA if I want to obtain somebody's birth certificate, it is public record and I can get it. Looks like you "schooled" me! LOL

I have always said that..I do wish we could put the matter to rest, but I am also wondering why this wasn't a bigger issue 2 plus years ago?
