2: To move to a state where they have a lower cost of living. A lot of companies here for their better jobs match the California salaries to get the right people, and the cost of living is so much lower it is like getting a 100%+ raise. We did not have the big housing crash here that they had in California. Companies here with minimum wage jobs, cannot find people willing to work for minimum wages and pay higher. In Montana unemployment rate is only 5.6%. Of course our highest unemployment rates are the Indian Reservations where the Federal Gov. controls everything. The Indians have cases in court, to get the power to control their reservations and to bring in things that will fight unemployment. We have 7 large reservations in Montana, going as big they are bigger than the small states.

3: For better living conditions, without the huge crush of people that you have in the populated parts of California.

Lets consider for the past 20 years, more people left California to move to other states. Here is a good study done for the 1995 to 2000 period, back before the recession hit.

See page 27, for the figures showing the age groups and numbers of in migration and out migration.

http://tinyurl.com/bxxdcya

It has gotten worse since 2000. More Americans are moving from the state, than to the state. Also note by age groups, the biggest loss is in the family years, as parents pull their kids and themselves out of the state for a better life.

The out migration vs. in migration has seen the white population fall from over 80% white down to 37% white today as middle class and educated white people have fled the state. The in migration to the state, is mostly from south of the U.S. border and Asia. The total number of in migration is less than the total out migration from or to any place in the world.

The only reason that California has grown in numbers for years, is due to number of children born, and over 50% of all Children born in California is to Hispanic parents.

A lot of people have moved from California to Montana, and Montana has grown in numbers due to in migration from other states.
Trader, do you know the difference between "Silicon Valley" and "California"? If you had said "Silicon Valley" all along, nobody would argue with you.

The rest of your post is kinda silly.
Lower cost of living depends on where in the states you live and how much you earn and what kind of lifestyle you buy yourself.
Better living conditions is an entirely subjective judgement which tens of millions have made in favor of California or they'd be camped in your front yard.
Not enough "white" people? Really? Sure you don't live in northern Idaho?

Good, send them back to california, so they can ruin their own state and stop ruining every state they move to. They come to other states bring their attitudes, and their I have to bid above asking price for a home in order to get theory. They ruin wherever they move to.

Yet our population in CA still grows. It isn't shrinking. And we are free to move about the country
as we wish. I see that as a strength of the country.
WRONG. It is only growing due to a high birth rate. More people are actually leaving California than moving to it.

In the period 1995–2000, 1,448,964 people moved into the state and 2,204,500 moved out, for a net loss of 755,536.

And this figure of out migration exceeding in migration is increasing.

And when the higher income places are considered in the U.S. with adjusted for cost of living being made, California does not make the top 10 places, but they do have a number of cities in the lowest adjusted income category.

Look at Tables 1 and 2 and Chart 6. Note people are moving into Montana more than those leaving, which is exactly the opposite of California. Note in Table 3 and see where they are going from California. Note Table 4, which shows how much income leaves the state with the ones entering California, and demonstrates why your state's tax receipts are going down. The people are leaving the state and taking their incomes with them, and the ones moving into the state have less income and less tax receipts. Charts 7 and 8, will show the states gaining the most money from California. Study Table 6, to see which part of California has the most negative migration with more leaving than entering the state.

If you enjoy Montana great, but don't spend your days complaining about California because you got priced out.
As I was earning about $150,000 in today's dollars back before the Silicon Valley went crazy with cost of living, I took a big cut to move out of California on doctor's orders. It took me almost 6 months to get back to where I was earning what I was in California.

I'm kinda in shock here. You say I am wrong, then say the population is growing, just like I did. How am I wrong that the population is growing? Last I checked, people like to do the hokey pokey, and babies often result. Causing a growth rate in the population. That's pretty normal.

Umm, tax receipts are going up. $4 billion dollars more than expected this quarter. Evidence of a recovery in progress.

Doctor's orders did not force you out of state. Even if the air quality in south bay was poor, a simple move to the Santa Cruz hills, or Santa Cruz, or Half Moon Bay area would have solved your problem. I think you are being disengenuous.

Any intermountain basin full of homes with woodstoves will likely have worse air quality in the winter than the bay area.

Oldtrader, since you took the time to rebut only one of my points I will assume that you concede the rest of my points in our prior discussion up above.

Whenever oldtrader mentions "high birth rate," that's code for "nothing but Mexicans."
