It is just another example of how humans destroy everything good on planet earth for their own selfish amusement or profit.

That's just awful. It makes me want to gather a crowd of people to hide in the forest and apprehend these idiots - catch them in the act. (I know, that's not a realistic scenario, but I can dream!)

I'm afraid to even look! They should put surveillance cameras around, but there are too many redwood groves for that. :'(

Angry This breaks my heart!

The redwoods are my cathedral. It is so painful to know of this. For anyone who claims to love California, these magnificent giants are what California is. If you give a damn about California, help make this stop!

The photo on that news story made my heart sink. So very sad!

I wonder if they've caught any of these vandals and what their punishment ended up being? It should take into account how old the tree(s) are and the fact they are essentially irreplaceable, unlike vandalism on man-made structures (which is bad enough of course).

NO! NO! NO! - it shows how a small number of humans destroy everything. The number of posts against this show that a majority of humans do not find this acceptable.

This story broke here a while ago and it really upset the community. Absolutely disgusting that people would do this to these magnificent trees after everything else they've been through (i.e. having 97% of their numbers cut down).
