So, does any of that rain help our state water supply in any way, in your opinion? My understanding was that the snow pack needs to increase to effect our actual supply. Of course, its nice to cool things down and give the plants some much needed water and help with fire problems as well.

Definitely. It would have been a favorable thing for aquifers and run off on certain streams would have gone into San Diego County reservoirs.

Speaking of a heatwave, the Midwest, or at least where I am, is also becoming hotter than average. For the last week or so it's been having highs in the high 80s F and it's like the end of September.

Well it's still summer, 20 days of it in September, and 10 of the last 17 days have been in the 70's and 80's, nothing unusual about that for Sacramento. Very pleasant.

Maybe where you are but generally September, by definition, is usually fall and that should be when things start to cool down.

It's not normal for the midwest, though, which is what It is 57 below zero was talking about.

September and October being hot is something that's really specific to the CA, and is not "normal" weather in the rest of the country.

September and October being hot is something that's really specific to the west coast, and is not "normal" weather in the rest of the country.
Speaking of west coast, Washington or Oregon don't even have a hotter September and October than the summer months.

Last week it was 100 here in southwest Oregon. Today it's 75.

We have even gotten a little rain lately...

I guess you are forgetting about Arizona, Florida, Texas, Utah.

Keep in mind summer doesn't end until Sept 20/21 so its actually summer all over the entire country.
