Contributing secondary factor, but not the major factor.

With lower levels of illegal immigration California would still be a blue state, but a lighter shade of blue. Like Oregon, which also made a transition from red to blue with considerably lower levels of illegal immigration (although there has been some there, it hasn't been to CA's level.) Immigration made CA deep dark blue, but I can't see a scenario even with less illegal immigration in which California is even reddish purple as it was 30 years ago (like Arizona now) much less one in which California was solid red as it was 60 years ago (like Texas now)

Conservatives don't even bother voting in Cali anymore....the millions of illegals that have invade California have all but assured its economic destruction, it's a broke state. Just a matter of time now.
I for one will enjoy watching it's collapse from my TV in Montana
They don't vote, really? So how do you account for the 4,483,810 votes in California for Trump, not to mention the 14 house seats that are held by Republicans?

or maybe they vote Democratic because they realize that Republicans want to "Make America White Again" Gosh..I don't know, is it any worse than implying that the citizen children of immigrants vote democratic to 'keep more family coming in'? Which is a little silly anyway because red states have not really done a great job at keeping undocumented people out of their states, have they?

Inland NorCal and CentralCal are still red. There are other parts of the state that are purple and which could have been won by a different Republican presidential candidate. If Kasich or Rubio had been the GOP candidate, Orange and Riverside counties would not have gone for Hillary, and Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and San Diego Counties would have been in play, maybe Sacramento too.

California's Trump Country is reliably Republican whoever the candidate is; there is no congressional district in the state that Trump won which is normally Democratic or even purple, unlike in the East and Midwest.

So how do you explain the exact same transition from red to blue occurring in the other contiguous US West Coast states, which have not had the same levels of illegal immigration?

It is one factor but not the primary factor. A lot of it has to do with the direction of the national party since the '80s, being directly contrary to the views of people in the state. Any candidate who could win California would have to hold views that would make winning Texas and the South impossible. This goes for both major parties

The Democrat party is in full failure mode outside California.

They have lost over 1200+ seats in Government in last 8 years, i think some democrats are in full denial

Senate - Republican

House - Republican

President - Republican

Governors 37 out of 50

That's why we need to take the western strip of California, from the bay area all the way down to Los Angeles county and toss it into the ocean or make it it's own country (while making Hillary their president).

Not just California, but the rest of the West Coast except for Alaska.
Even Oregon which is a lighter shade of blue than California, Washington, and Hawaii.
The West Coast is going one way while most of the US is going another way with the Mountain West in between.
I don't think it's possible for anyone to win CA and win the South/TX
