Are you kidding? This Zoltan idiot is asking California to come up with nearly a trillion dollars more in taxes to support his plan.

The entire, legislative approved, California annual budget for 2016 was less than $172 billion.

Where you going to get the other money?

Silly idea, empty land produces no revenue. If it did American Indians living on reservations would all be rich.

Basic income would replace welfare and so it would cost the taxpayer less money. It isn't necessarily a liberal idea. There are some on the right like Charles Murray or the late Milton Friedman who have favored it. It was actually the left who prevented it from happening
Alaska also has one of the smallest economies in the U.S by GDP.

Universal Basic Income doesn't help or enlarge an economy. It only creates subsistence living for the poor, and inflation for everyone else.

Well the idea would be to lease out the land to oil drillers I guess .
But this is all speculation . Plus if you allowed so much drilling the price of the resource would come down .

Plus, imagine telling the majority of the people who would vote for universal income that the state would start drilling or fracking the California wilderness. We're talking about people with very little understanding or even care for how things get paid for.

"If every household — and there are about 13 million in California — received this sort of 5 percent annual payout, it would be about $57,500 per household, or nearly $5,000 a month. Sounds like his ideas are more than strange enough to make him a viable candidate for Governor of California; a real contender, even! Should create quite a rush to the left coast by the unemployed, lazy and entitled from all the other states. That beats being a sanctuary state all hollow. Enjoy!

It's all fun and games until they start shooting their pets, and killing zoo animals because the grocery stores have run out of food like in Venezuela.

Socialism, not even once.

I so hope they do this. Hopefully it will prompt all of the deadbeats from across the country to flock to California. Great weather AND you get money you don't need to earn? What's not to love?

I think people all over the country should see this as a win-win.
