Our combined income is roughly 20% less and that's pretty much in line. Do you honestly think living with only a 20% pay cut with a house that is 1/4 to 1/5 in cost and property tax that is 40% less is going to be more challenging? C'mon sav. I don't mind calling out everyone of these Texas posters for some of the nonsense they've posted in this thread. But this claim is as fallacious as it gets.
I think you and others are reading too much into the claim, that report just mentions tax rates and not anything else. It doesn't say CA is cheaper or we pay less overall or anything.

Happy with your change of residence Mike? Great to hear. I’m happy for you. And …. I’m happy affording California,

Happy is good. Leave it at that, eh?
Maybe some can afford to live in California but they would have so much more elsewhere.

Define “More.” … no wait. Don’t.

Can you understand that what you consider *more* is not always the same for all other people?

Then why bring it up if it's a nothing burger?

No. *More* to some people, such as yourself, might mean *more* square footage for their house / apartment. For others, *more* might mean QOL factors such as weather or *more* rapidly accelerating real estate appreciation, or *more* cultural venues of a specific type.

*More* is a quantification term … not a descriptive noun.

My thinking was similar....

More of what? More places for a stroll on a hiking trail for instance ? (something that would matter to me...but, of less importance to someone else)

I personally thought it was interesting since everyone assumes you pay a lower portion of your salary in taxes in TX. It certainly riled some folks up

I think everyone assumes you pay less in taxes (which they do) as opposed to the misleading headline used in the article posted. Spin, spin, spin.

Sure but they would likely be surprised that it’s a actually a higher percentage, well at least the lower and middle income groups. That’s why it’s important to read beyond just the headline.
