If their were a drop in population, houses in CA wouldn't be insanely expensive like they are today.

Houses are becoming more expensive everywhere it seems, probably due to more people buying houses as an investment.

Its not a sudden mass exodus, just a constant outbound flow of domestic immigration. By "domestic" I mean those left after backing out all immigrants. If you isolate domestic outflows solely, it looks more like a mild prolonged exodus.

Companies/employers have also been on a constant outflow.

Wealth and income gaps are wide in Cali. Not exactly the progressive model state. The middle class have been priced out of the housing market, so they are leaving in larger numbers.

The IT sector is propping up the state financially. That is the Goose laying the Golden eggs, like the auto industry did for Detroit for decades. If anything happens to the IT sector, Cali's in big trouble.

This article says Cali's population declined in 2020 for the 1st time since 1900. That is concerning indeed.

Why would you exclude immigrants? Oh right, to fit your agenda? the bay area is full of immigrants working at the top tech and biotech companies - the smartest people europe, asia and africa have top offer. The state is losing all these people if you exclude all the people moving in!! makes sense. lol

There can be an outflow of population and housing demand still be severely impacted.

Why is it concerning? The state is WAY overpopulated and AI is rapidly reducing workforce size. Why do we need to even maintain population, let alone grow more? Insane.

Here’s a Forbes report on places people are moving to and from. California - unfortunately - doesn’t even rank in the top 12 place people are “fleeing”.

Btw, are you aware that roughly 20% of Americans want to move this year from wherever they live?

The thing is there is/was an enormous exodus of people. The fact that new people moved in counters that, sure, but it happened. And many were people who've been here for more than a generation. Just because one thing happened doesn't mean another thing didn't also happen.
