As for “middle” income people leaving…. We’re middle income (last income statement before taxes was $62K) that moved back TO California. Lucky for us our housing costs were covered. THAT was key for us. We know what it takes to survive here - and have a comfortable living. We’re living on the SAME MONEY we lived on in Utah.

We just don’t have the church controlling/nannying our lives. And we don’t have BUSINESS PEOPLE running Public Health.

The reason Republicans will never rule California and the State Legislature again is that they are very bad at it. And people know it. We have very long memories and scars to prove it.

I agree. We lived all over and settled in California. Control your expenses, you don't pay much in state taxes.

Why is it concerning ? The state remains the world’s 5th strongest economy among hundreds of nations. Why does California need to be home to every company in the nation or be considered a failure ?

Immigration and border control are 100% federal functions. States are not empowered to control immigration.

But states don't need to promote immigration by offering free health care, drivers license, and DMV voter registration, school free lunches, housing subsidies.

I exclude immigrants to drill down on what is happening to domestic Californians. Those who were born and raised in Cali, paid taxes, voted, fought wars, & created most of the wealth in the state. These are the people leaving Cali. They are taking their wealth, companies, & jobs with them.

The middle class in Cali has been decimated. For the most part, you have the wealthy, and those who serve them. The cost of living, taxes, and regulations, are strangling the domestic population.

To get an understanding of this, one must exclude immigrants in the net outflows and inflows.

How many Cali Billionaires are immigrants on this list?

Generally speaking, immigrants are less educated, have less money, & thus are a net drain on Cali's public resources. They are much more likely to be takers, and not makers. However, not ALL immigrants are the same. Asians are more educated than Hispanics, for instance.

Cali is losing massive amounts of employers to Texas, there's no denying it. Cali is losing massive amounts of long time Cali residents to other states.

If this net outbound flow of Cali's best and brightest is not stemmed soon, the states financial outlook will begin to decline to the point that even the IT sector cannot mask.

The state doesn’t offer those things to promote immigration. Those things are offered as a function of (humane) situational management.

Blah blah blah. Immigrants do all of the above. I am an immigrant and have paid more in taxes than the vast % of “natives”.

Why don’t you stop beating around the bush and just admit you are xenophobic so we can know what we are working with, instead of just posting some nonsense under the veneer of respectability.

Those things are offered so they will eventually vote for Democrats.

Likewise, a state government shouldn't be handling a federal issue with the states money, those people are not residents of the state or the country (deported when caught). The state shouldn't encourage illegal immigration by offering those things either, it might not be written that way in the law but that's the reality. The reality is there's a large Hispanic population here, Democrats blur the the difference between illegal and legal immigrants to play them into thinking republic are just against Hispanics and keep voting for those hand outs, it's false and manipulative.

Well, if California wishes to remain one of the world's strongest economies, then it needs to retain those businesses. The trend of businesses leaving CA could become even stronger over the next few years if CA doesn't become more competitive for business. When businesses leave, people will leave, and CA's future tax revenue will start to decrease.
