While all that looks good on paper there are many conflicts and human rights violations going on around the world at any given time that our government doesnt feel the need to address.
If you feel it a moral obligation to be in Syria fighting for whatever cause i'm sure you could join this mass migration of Canadians going to Syria because if you wait for the government to act you might be left waiting a long time.

I wonder if UN or DoD members ever read these sites just to get a good laugh out of people who think they know what they are talking about.

And we all know how wars get started don't we?

Or maybe for some a reminder is necessary: google false flag/USS Maddox/Gulf of Tonkin and see how a little CIA nonsense has far reaching consequences for less than informed citizens of a country. How many did you sacrifice to that little fracas again?

You put a whole bunch of millitary assets from opposing countries within eyeball battle distance of each other and all sorts of chit can hit the fan. Not all of it within your control.

You don't see the possibility of this type of chicanery being resorted to for political motivation by an inexperienced, messianic, president whose currency to govern is now in tatters through his mismanagement of the whole mid-east portfolio? You further don't see how one wrong turn can lead you down a road into a quagmire you can neither win, NOR AFFORD?

China, for just one, is sitting back rubbing their hands with 'hope and change' being their big grin mantra.

I'm sure your imagination can see where a domino effect could start and a major global conflict ensue, not saying it will happen but the potential is there.

World War I was started because of an assassination. The domino effect of this could be much larger. Especcialy with Russia, Iran and China backing Syria.

During the civil war in Yugoslavia, the Canadian Forces reported a number of men who spoke clear unaccented English, who were in fact Canadian citizens, of Serbian, Croatian ,or Bosnian ethnicity, who had gone "back home " to fight. The reports were forwarded to CSIS, who investigated, and recommended that the Federal Government lay charges against them. Nothing ever came of it.

Now, the same thing is happening in Syria. Perhaps the best way to deal with this is to stop them at the airport and sit them down for a chat, with the intention of revoking their citizenship , post haste. After all we now have the legislation to do this, in law.

Toronto,

Think that'll ever happen? Jason Kenney is too busy prostituting himself to minorities so the Tories can get the votes.

Toronto,
I grew up in a neighbourhood that saw a huge influx of Croats just after the Soviet collapse. As a kid, the fathers and brothers of many kids I knew and went to school with went back home to fight. Same with Serbs who lived on the other side of the highway. They used to hunt each other in the neighbourhood with bats and spike sticks, playing out their version of the Balkan war on the streets of Mississauga.

Let me say this: If the US continues to play world cop and pretends its internal problems are any better by spending billions of dollars on a war that has nothing to do with it under all pretentious reasons, let the US do it. The US is still in the illusion that it is still powerful enough to control any part of the world the way it wants.

Canada shouldn't be part of it. We shouldn't spend a cent or lose any life in a war that has nothing to do with us. We are a small country and we are not powerful. We don't and shouldn't play world cop. That's something that is not worth fighting for.

More importantly, if it is not a war we would want to fight on our own, it is not a war we should go to at all. I am so sick of all this accomplice role Canada plays in world affairs - We dare not do it by ourselves, but instead are happy to chip in when our powerful neighbour is in it. So Humiliating.

Toronto,
Well, in the 1930s there WAS a law prohibiting Canadians from fighting in the Spanish Civil war. That did not prevent 1700 Canadians from going and fighting. Those Canadians felt strongly enough that fascism had to be stopped that they were willing to give up their lives for the cause. No law stops that kind of idealism.
