His complaints about federal-level official bilingualism in Canada are especially funny (well, sort of) when you consider that the policy was initially brought in to support and buffer the anglo community of Quebec against a Quebec government that could be controlled by separatists/nationalists.
That's why most of the initial bilingualism spending by Canada's federal government went to English in Quebec.
It's only when francophone minorities outside Quebec started bitching about the inequity of it all that things started to even up with more programs, services and funding for French outside Quebec.
When in doubt, throw a bunch of "bad Frenchy" anecdotes and links at 'em!
The brunt of jokes around the world. These are links to real stories and exemplifies just how childish the Quebec government is when it comes to language..

Yes, I am sure it is the topic if both heated discussion and guffaws at the Buddha Bar in Bangkok as we speak.
Maybe you should ask those same people at the Buddha Bar what they think of anglos who've lived in Montreal their entire lives but still can't speak any French?
The language laws are idiotic. To force an entire population to use a specific language is borderline dictatorship.
FL has it right: a sizable portion of the population speaks Spanish as a main language. There is NO LAW that forces them to have menus and signs in English, and no one complains when a storefront displays "mercado" instead of "market." It's childish, and especially in a world-class city like Montreal, embarrassingly pathetic. You want the whole city to be "pure-laine?" Well be prepared for it to fall behind other large cities faster than it already is. You'd think these morons would have gotten the memo when the economy started going to ****.

Some ones getting sensitive and exposing a victim mentality on the issue, by your silly responses you seem to have lost site of the fact we are talking about the Quebec Governments ridiculous language laws and not about you personally.
