I made a roast beef today--cooking in the oven all day to make it good and tender--smells so good. I'll add the veggeis and cook for another hour or so.....Nice cool day for making this kind of meal. Now I just hope he can eat it.

Cook the veggies a bit longer than you would normally. When it's all done, sort of mash those veggies with a fork. They won't look the same, but they'll taste exactly the same, especially if you mash them with some of the juice from the cooker. As for the meat, shred his portion with two forks and then cut the shredded parts into smaller bites. It works and it'll be a bit easier for him to eat and get it down. I hope that helps, Cyn.

Good morning my dear friends!
The roast did hit the spot and DH ate quite a bit--that is his favorite meal!
It seems like he is feeling better but still has some issues...I'll just keep a close eye on him again today.
Have a lovely day everyone!

One of the saddest days of my life was when my wife( also on ALS ) could only eat one spoonful and choke on the second.

Luckily for us the feeding peg had been installed a year earlier, and she gradually was switching from eating food to feeding peg.

Some people with ALS don't want a feeding peg and I understand as that is their choice.

Some however, say they will have a feeding peg but later.

Most of them who say that have the ALS affect their lungs so much that when they do want the feeding peg it is not an option as they no longer can withstand the minor surgery of installing it.

At some point one has to decide.............yes, I want a feeding peg and will get it now
Or, no, I don't want one.

ALS does not let you prolong that decision as the option is not available as ones lungs deteriorate.
