Years ago I met Lawrence Welk while working at a charity event as a fraternity do-good project, very pleasant man who seemed genuinely interested in the people he was talking with.
Years later I was working in a bike shop and former heavyweight boxer Gerry Cooney was one of my customers. A BIG whom it would no doubt take some cojones to climb in a ring with but also an easy-going fun-loving Irishman and a pleasure to see walk in the door..
The family and I have met lots of local celebrities.
Most are athletes from the local teams Warriors, A’s, Giants and football teams.
Most all are very nice.
I once saw Mark McGuire at morning coffee.
A few hours later at an intersection.
Later driving with a friend I said look there is Mark and he waved at my friend.
Later that day there he was again and I’m trying to hide because I didn’t want to be a stalker.
Well sure enough he saw me and we both just laughed.
My daughter once came up to me and told me one of her friends dad was famous but she never heard of him.
I asked her who he was and she told me “Eddie Mahoney”.
I actually knew Eddie from when we both lived in Lafayette .
I told her that she might know him as Eddie Money and she laughed.
I once had Bobby Bonds as my helper installed a new 220v outlet at his house.
Damn nice man.

I saw George Hamilton twice, once in my friend's Beverly Hills restaurant, another time in elevator of Ritz Carlton Hotel,Chicago.
He is smaller and shorter than seen in movies,he is so afraid we will scream and harrass him!
I met and got an autograph from Peter Coyote in the 80's. I was a huge fan at the time so that was cool and he was making a HBO movie in Texas. His co-star was Leslie Ann Warren and she was very unfriendly and seemed scared of everyone. They are no different than anyone else, we all have our quirks.

I used to run into Sheila E. In Safeway in the middle of the night. We were the only two customers in the store. Happened a bunch of times, and we laughed about it.

One of the places that Eddie lived was right on the border of Lafayette and Orinda, and Claudell Washington from the A’s lived down the street from him.
I am not sure if I ever answered this and this thread is LONG! So I'll go again:
Nicest celebrities I've met were, in no particular order:
Slim Pickens
Two guys from the Little River Band during their heyday
Rudest ones:
Gabby Gifford (hands down)
Jacklyn Smith
Neutral:
Prince
BarKays
I think I've met more than those but those spring to my mind.
My dad met Muhammed Ali twice in his lifetime - and Ali remembered meeting my dad the first time when they met again the second time! My dad said he was very, very nice and seemed kind hearted, truly interested in other people, etc. He also met Jimmy Carter and said he was a very personable, humble sort of guy.

Four athletes I remember…..
Raiders quarterback Daryl Lamonica. He was a big hunting buddy of my neighbor. Nice guy.
Cal Bear and later Raider Jeff Barnes. He worked for my friend’s family’s company while he was at Cal. Nice guy
My best friend lived across the street from Ron Cey’s cousin. Nice guy.
Ha ha,
I used to work at a restaurant that Rick Barry and his family frequented in the mid/late 70’s .
I think it was the championship year.
His wife would always rip into him.
Just chew him out.
He must have been a bad boy at times .
Eddie lived on Moraga road when I knew him then.
He was boo’ed off the stage at the roundup more than once for singing while wasted.
He was really one of the good guys and had a nice heart.
A couple years before me a few members of Journey went to our high school, Ross and another guy who escapes me.
There are a wad of athletes in the Danville/Alamo area I’m from.
I live next door to one.
Couple of the good guys are Ray Fosse, Tony LaRussa and Fred Bletnikoff .
Most famous locals are decent people.
Some of their wives are another story though.
When Steph used to live in Alamo he was my buddies neighbor but I never knew him.
Most of them kind of guys are just people that blend in with everyone at the grocery stores.
