Question is.......do you feel a smug sense of righteousness over a 'young' death for him ?
Or sympathy for a kid/man that never had much of a life?
Whichever....he was one great talent!
B.S. - he was one overexposed/overhyped clone of better artists he grew up watching/listening to.
The moonwalk? Don't make me laugh. A weak imitation of moves James Brown had been doing on stage for countless years. The Michael Jackson R & B falsetto...a weak recycling of a style done much better and much earlier by Smokey Robinson and Eddie Kendricks.
Today we mourn the loss of the REAL artists...

Eddie Kendricks December 17, 1939 – October 5, 1992
To me, he was an icon of my era ("back in the day".)
Regardless of you personal opinion of the man himself, seeing him die is really really weird. It's a reminder of our mortality; something that once was a constant is no longer there.
That's exactly how I feel. Losing two icons in one day makes me feel really, really OLD!
Michael Jackson has no equal. He is the Beethoven of Pop, and his music has and will continue to inspire hundreds of millions. His talent was heaven-sent and like hundreds of millions of others, a part of my soul left when he died. Very tragic.
We all will not see another like him during our lifetime. He certainly had and will continue to have a positive impact on my life. May this great man and performer rest in peace.
Regardless of his past few years, Michael was and always will be an icon in my book. I grew up with the Jackson 5 and when Michael hit the scene, it was nothing like I had seen before. I wasn't around for Elvis or the Beatles and had to think that this is what it must have been like in that time.
I was just talking with my mom who is 68. She was talking about how much she has always loved Thriller. That album ran non-stop in my house. So many songs before that album were massive hits as well. I remember watching a concert of his on tv when I was younger and he was singing Billie Jean. He then did the moon-walk and the fans went nuts as did my sister and I. They played that clip on the news tonight. One moment I will NEVER forget. I remember when my cousin learned to do the moon-walk. It was crazy.
No one will come close to Michael Jackson performance wise. Music is awful today, people lip sync at their concerts, tv performances. He knew how to put on a concert and anyone who was lucky enough to see one live was blessed.
Say what you will about the man, but my memories of Michael are of his music, not the other stuff.
I was on the set of the TV Show "Leverage" filming here in Portland today when I heard the news. Seems strange I had just heard shortly before that Farrah Fawcett had died. People were saying bad day for celebrities. RIP Michael Jackson.
