I am not sure what is the problem with the TWC DVR system? I have had no issues and they record well, no space issues, etc. And for the price, no upfront costs and $7 a mo.. Did I miss something?

Problem is this after using TIVO and then using TWC DVR service you realise that tIVO is a far better system, if you have never used either you will be content with the DVR service, once your try TIVO you will never go back to a DVR service.

There's no problem really, it's just how geeked out you want your shows to be (I tend to go for uber-geek). As mentioned earlier, you can transfer your recording off the tivo, transfer shows to Tivo, watch a recording made on one tivo on another tivo and more. Amazon has even linked up and you can download a movie (say from the office) and it will be waiting for you when you get home. But if you want basic recording (which is totally fine for most), the TW dvr is fine- it's just the more I use it, the more limited it seems to me.
