Huntersville is a great community, and the commute to Belk wouldn't be too bad, but I'd be crazed if I had to commute from Huntersvile to uptown every day. Same with Ft. Mill.
Please know that Charlotte is really a giant suburb itself, and you could easily find a nice neighborhood in-town that would give you a sense of community.

Her current commute is 90 minutes each way. I think the commute depending on where she is looking in Huntersville would be a piece of cake especially if she's near 485.

I agree! Why does anyone want to spend 45 minutes commuting to and from work? Do you realize that is 7.5 hours a week? Pretty much a whole work day spent commuting each week. I would buy a home as close to central Charlotte as I could afford and enjoy spending that time doing something other than driving.
I'd definitely prefer to be closer to uptown but the neighborhoods we liked were out of our budget. Myers Park was beautiful but not an option and I do like the suburb too. Is there a closer neighborhood you recommend to shorten commute time?

Good luck. My husband lives 7 miles from his job at a major financial institution and it can sometimes take him 45 mins to get to to work, one way. Thats non highway driving btw. The other day it took him an hour and a half to get home from work.

I ask that question frequently so that people can, hopefully, make appropriate suggestions. We have had posters come on here & say that they have jobs in Gastonia & Kings Mountain and people have made suggestions of towns in Union County. Imagine those commutes.
Thanks so much! The notes about commuting are especially helpful. My commute now is 1 hour 30 min each way so prob up to 45 min is ok. What are your thoughts on Huntersville? Will definitely look at Belmont and Fort Mill.
Huntersville is a nice town and has a lot of shopping, dining, and entertainment to offer. There are many different housing options (mansions, ranches, townhomes, etc), and I'm sure you'll be able to find something you like. The traffic can get pretty bad at the normal rush hours, but there are projects underway to help alleviate some of the congestion, so hopefully those will help.
