It's texturing the concrete to look like something else, like stone. Check the link:

Wow, what a week! I managed to get one more quote (seems like many are maybe so busy that they don't answer the phone or don't return calls don't show up at appt times.....maybe the one who kept not showing up would have charged $5 sq foot? ) and it was for $9.56/sq foot......
This is getting ridiculus. It's a simple expansion, no deep pour, nothing but making the darn thing larger!
I thought the guy who quoted $7.20 was pleasant and knowledgeable, I might have to go bite the bullet and use him.....it just kills me know that I know I should be able to do it for less.
If anyone knows of someone who did their or a good friend's work for less than 7.20 sq foot please pm me with a name.
THANKS!!!

We didn't use him b/c we decided to put in a screened in porch instead. But his portfolio was very impressive.
Hope this helps.
stmarteen --- This number for Flynn Landscape company was disconnected. Do you have any other information in the portfolio they gave you about contacting them?

Thanks

That's too bad. I have a feeling he might have gone out of business, due to the state of the economy and the drought. He told me that so many landscaping companies were already in trouble. (This was back in September of 2007.) I had no idea he would be affected as well.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other contact info for him. Sorry.

On second thought; I just did some digging...aparently he has a new phone number try this one:
(704) 596-8899

Hope this helps.

Default And we have a winner!

Ok, it's been a LONG process.....something I thought would be quick and easy!
After names given to me here, a few I found myself, I got a referral from one of the referrals I got from here.....FINALLY got a professional person, who could/would do the job, was polite, came when he said he would, and even told me that I could get a larger expansion (than the 250 sq ft I was looking at) for the same amount, since they have a minimum.......So, my 250 sq foot expansion was going to cost $6 per sq ft.....but we expanded it to 344 sq ft which brings the cost per sq ft to $4.36.
I'm on the schedule for "May 23 or sooner", we'll see how it turns out!
If anyone wants the name/number I'll DM it, just let me know (no endorsements on my part publicly til the work is done and I'm happy!).

Joan-Please keep us updated with this. I'd be interested in hearing what happens.

I'm also considering the brick pavers also.

Whew, the patio is DONE, finally. Took them almost 2 weeks from the time they came out to form it to the time they actually managed to pour. However, it looks FABULOUS!

We did not get an overlay, but were told that we could easily add one at a later date. The workers were friendly and cleaned up after themselves.

It's GREAT to have our picnic table, chairs and grill (along with the hot tub) ON the patio instead of one the grass/dirt/weeds.
