They do make wireless security camera/intercom equip. Not too pricey, saw one on brickhouse security. About 400 bucks, you can add multiple cameras. Do a search you will plenty of options, some for much less. Remember you get what you pay for.
Ani, just talked to "Mr. Security" and he says that if you have a crawlspace with frame construction then wired intercom is not such a tough retrofit (even with brick facade). In some cases, wireless (cameras, motions, etc) is going to be the easiest/only route to go in a retrofit. His opinion is to go wired whenever you can, so that you don't have to worry about battery-life.
Y'all have to start taking care of your own home defense if the case is that the police are not responding. At my driveway entrance there are 2 signs..reading..."No Solicitors" and ":Protected by Smith & Wesson"...end of story...no drama...no whining...no looking for sympathy...time for Americans to start doing for themselves instead of waiting for "Big Brother" to do it for them.

Very correct.
I'm actually gonna make a decal that says:
This Home Protected by a Big God, Big Guns, and Big Dogs. Keep Walking.
When one of those guys came round our neighborhood a while back, I saw him pull a bunch of paperwork from his back pocket. It was folded the long way and just in his back pocket, covered over by his jacket. It seemed weird to me.
I was thinking of you today, Ani, because as I was driving back into my neighborhood, I saw that we had a "No Soliciting" sign at the entrance. I'm not sure if it is new, or if it was always there and just covered up by realtor signs, or if I just never noticed it (but I'm usually pretty observant...) I'd like to think it was new and is a response to those magazine guys.
I think our neighborhood needs one of those signs. It may not help - but then - maybe it would! At least homeowners could yell out the door "Didn't you read the sign? No solicitors!!!!"
Ultra - my DH thinks my "stick head out window" method is hilarious but it made me feel really really good. Well, I have a screen on the window so I don't actually "stick head out" - but you get the picture.
