My mother is going to be coming from Europe for Christmas and I wanted to find out what churches are doing Christmas Carol Services. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean - special church services w/ choral music? Or do you mean Christmas Eve Services?

As far as productions - she may like "The Singing Christmas Tree" which is an annual production here in CLT, but the dates are the 6th and 7th, and I wasn't sure if she will be here that soon . . .

Carolina Voices

For Christmas Eve Services, there are so many wonderful services throughout the metro area . . . but here is one: Carolina Strings will perform at Myers Park United Methodist Church, Christmas Eve, Candlelight service, 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm on December 24, 2008.

Here are some musical events in the area:

I have not attended Calvary's Christmas services, but have been told they are beautiful - here is info on their Christmas season concerts:

Thanks for that. Of course on Christmas Eve I have to go to our own Catholic Church - can't go to the opposition for Christmas!! I have heard though of some of the churches around town putting on Christmas "specials" during December which I thought I would go to and I would also like to take her to a gospel church.

I will see what else I can dig up along and post it here! Hopefully, others will help out, too. You are right - there are sooooo many services w/ special music . . . even recitals. Just have to find out where and when . . .

Watch the religion section of the newspaper for churches performing "cantatas" (Christmas musicals). Or, find out when one of the local high school choruses is performing their holiday concert. I've been to a number of those and they are pretty awesome.

P.S. Here's a link to the Observer's Faith & Values section from this week. There is a list of local musical specials.
