You could tell a big difference. Cabinets in the kitchen were upgraded counter tops etc. The upgraded home just looked a helluva lot better. Needless to say my client went for that one.
I guess to each there own....
I agree especially in the kitchen especially. A little thing like upgrading to 42 inch cabinets makes a huge difference in the end. Ceilings? If 9 foot and smooth is an option get it!! A nine foot oppssed to an 8 foot big difference in the feel of a house. My 2 cents.
We wanted to do the same thing, buy our own oven, stop top and etc.
You can not do this because it will not pass inspection. Code says the house has to be "livable" upon move in and it isn't livable with out these.
Buy the stove you want AFTER the closing and install it yourself. Let the builder put the standard appliances in, as you won't get a CO if all kitchen appliances aren't hooked up.
Wow great advice! I'm purchasing a 1700 foot ranch from KB homes. Are they really giving me a deal with 50% off options or am I going to get killed on there lenders interest rate? Also since I am in a ranch, should I go with wood floors through out except for the bedrooms?
50% off on upgrades sounds like a gimmick that some builders use to get you to sign on the dotted line. It could, however, be a very good deal depending on what the original upgrade prices are, if they're not already over-inflated. As far as your lenders interest rates, I'm not sure what they are, so I can't comment on that. Try NOT to include your upgrades in your mortgage. If you can, pay them off before you close, as this will lower your monthly payments.
Yes, definitely get wood flooring throughout.

I believe mags is going with the gourmet kitchen option as I.
There isn't a standard option with that everything is an upgrade and needs to be purchased. Bummer I know , because they are charging $2600 for a double oven that I can get at Sears for around $1800 (Kenmore is made by Kitchenaid)

WHAAT??? They aren't including standard appliances??? They expect you to automatically upgrade for the range, microwave and DW? That's like saying: "Oh, and the front door and windows are "extra" too." What a rip! Wow! I've worked for many buliders, national and local, never have I heard of such a thing!

Yep; if you go with the "gourmet", it is a purcahse option.
If you go standard then yes, you can take what they give you.
Believe me, just about everything with KB is a purchase option! (even window casings; you get the sill, whopeedo, but casings are extra.)
Trade off would be you aren't going to satifiy everybody and KB as been very accomidating at least with us.
Let's see how everything starts to pan out once they start building....

Holy Moly!!! 2,600 for a double oven upgrade, mine was 1,100.
Make your home what you want it to be....not what others think. You have to pay the bills and live there. I've built two homes and one time I did what I wanted and once I didn't and I learned my lession. Make it meet your needs. If you plan on living there for ever definitely think first. If your planning on a few years then that may be a different story. Good luck in your new home, I'm sure you'll make the right decisions.
Ive priced the double wall ovens as I have my kitchen people coming and YES it was 2600 we looked at the kenmore elite and the GE Profile...and im looking at the Bisque ones as I will never do stainless again...I have it now all kenmore elite...
Let me rephrase that I love the kenmore elite products..LOL...just hate the stainless appliances...
