Congratulations, superk! I lived in PA for several years; it's a great place. The area around Pittsburgh is beautiful, too. Lots of hills and rivers. Best of luck to you!
That's actually my biggest concern. It sounds the same way as it was living in NY. That constant grey pall in the sky for months on end was awful.
When I first moved to NC, my biggest concern was that, because I'm rather fair-skinned, I used to burn too easily. I thought I'd live in a constant state of sunburn pain all summer long. But, the bright sunny skies year-round has given my skin enough color, along with a much more gradual lead-in into the summer months, that I've rarely burned in 15 years, even at the beach. I've now come to enjoy going to the beach, knowing I won't be burned to a crisp, and I'd hate to lose that.

You may want to hop the train to Philly, occasionally, for a milder climate. My nephew was born & raised in South Jersey & went to college in Pittsburgh. He was very anxious to leave the much colder climate after 4 years.
Just remember the now immortal words of Tim Russert. Pennsylvania. . .You've got Philadelphia on one end & Pittsburgh on the other & Alabama in between.
Hmmm. Here's something I hadn't planned on. This job offer does NOT include any relocation assistance. I have a general idea of how much it's going to cost to move. But I have no idea where I'd be able to get enough money together to pay a security deposit, and the first month's rent, and all of the costs of utility hookups and whatever else, not to mention paying out the remainder of my current lease. Especially since I don't know yet when the ESC cuts you off. I'm thinking that my only option might be to take a 401K hardship withdrawl loan so that I have enough cash on-hand to do this.
