I believe the common rat snake and the black racer are two different snakes, The black racer is smaller and so black it looks almost dark shinny blue. The are more aggressive and will chase you. I may add that I posted a picture early in this thread of the 6 ft rat snake that crawled from under my car,Well last week another one only about 2 ft long crawled across the driveway and my son killed it. I figure one or more baby snake either way wouldnt make a difference,.We seem to have plenty of them around here..

Hope no one takes a similar view when your son is walking along the street one day!

Unjustified. in a similiar scenario (at least to me since I have a pet snake) would you be bothered if I said a dog walked across my driveway so I killed it?

That snake in the picture isn't a water moccasin? I am by no means a snake expert, but I would swear by looking at the shape of its head that it would be a water moccasin or some other venomous snake.

This would have resulted in me running the hell away leaving only a trail of urine and shame.

We live on 5 acres and have seen several large copperheads, which our guard dogs alerted us to in the middle of the night. Now that we mow everything- no snakes!

I dislike them snakes, oh yes I do, I do. Auntie don't come here, I only been here 4 mths from up north and is moving back within weeks. I can't take these bugs, spiders and seeing that huge snake. I can't sleep, I am jittery and I am confused as to why I let my daughter talk me into moving here. Well we're in Raleigh, all the same to me. Daughter said they killed black snakes at her job, put in her notice and is getting the hell out of dodge.
