I think Oak Lawn is perfectly "rated" for what it is.

I think some of the SW suburbs mentioned are extremely nice and not loved on this forum. Some of the overrated ones are far out cookie cutter or just so so and hyped.

I saw some of the north shore burbs and Hinsdale mentioned as overrated; those areas get the credit they deserve as some of the more attractive areas with nice homes, great schools and location, and constant overall improvement no matter how bad the economy gets, because of teardowns upgrading those areas and demand from investment conscious transferrees or home buyers in general.

Agreed

You say that the north shore suburbs and Hinsdale get the credit they deserve, but in the same breath say that Highland Park is overrated? What about HP makes is different and undeserving than the other North Shore suburbs?

IMO, Highland Park is further up the lake, making its location less desireable, and is a larger town, with less of the charm of some the closer in north shore suburbs. Just like Burr Ridge, it doesn't mean that it is not a nice place, only that compared to other north shore towns closer in, it is overrated for the sum total of what you get.

This is the main reason I put Lake Forest on the overrated list, which is located even further from Chicago than HP and generally much more expensive

I would think that the least desirable north shore towns are the ones that aren't on the lake like Northbrook, Glenview, Deerfield, etc. I think those towns are more overrated than HP and Lake Forest.

The "north shore" towns that aren't on the lake aren't actually part of the "north shore".

They're not on the lake, but they are considered north shore suburbs. Anything west of Northbrook or Glenview isn't the north shore area anymore.

I'm with Anthera, if the city doesn't have a shore border, it isn't part of the North Shore. We've had the discussion before on here. There will never be agreement about it though.

According to whom? Realtors in Northbrook and Deerfield?

Why not throw in Vernon Hills?
