Am close to retiring, sold my home and bought a place in FL, however I still need to work another year or two in the Chicago area. Am a seasonal construction worker that works about 6-7 (late spring/summer/most of fall) months a year.

Extended stay hotels and the like are kind of pricey, Apt's can work, but I'd need to set up utilities etc, plus would need basic items which I dont want to shlep around all the time.I dont want to do yearly leases tho obviously.

Anything decent for around 1000 per month (or less) all in?

Flexible on location, west,sw subs best though.

Try to use Airbnb or Home stay apps or websites to negotiate something with the owners. Its a different market place than the normal apartment rentals.

The Atworth in Vernon Hills apparently has short-term rentals. It's a nice new place. I think $1000 or less per month is a problem around here, however. You would probably be looking at a studio if anything. Check out 415 Premier Apartments in Evanston and Evanston Neighborhood Properties too.

Poke around sublet.com

I see 1BR/1BA in Naperville for $1200.

Your budget is too low for the area.

Evanston and Vernon Hills just too far. Work mostly south and west subs.

My budget has to be around that much, otherwise not worth returning to work here another year or two.

I'll check out sublet.com and Airbnb.

On Craigslist, I see a Darien and a Romeoville Woodspring extended stay property, before taxes, of $995 to $1,095 or so. They price higher in busier seasons, I think. But they told me if you lock it in at a current price, you keep that price during your entire extended stay.

But they told me after six months you don't pay tax any longer; hmmm...I had thought it's usually after only 90 days or so at these extended stay locations that you're then considered a "resident" or don't pay the tax.

These Woodspring properties look decent, at least from the CL photos.

Yes those are an option too, though was reading reviews on them and was a little disappointed.
Wifi was iffy too, I need good internet.

Only thing is I have 2 vehicles, a work truck and my personal car. Not sure how they care or if it matters.

Actually I think it's like after 30 days they don't collect tax any more. They'll refund your first months taxes too after 30.
