Well, it's not like the Chicago area just stops at the Chicago/Hammond border.
I also fail to see how Michigan City is not in Northwest Indiana
And while it's definitely on the fringes of "Chicagoland," Michigan City is Cubs/Bears territory if that means anything, and it reachable from downtown in just over an hour by train.

In my opinion, its barely Chicagoland. I only refer to the original 6 counties as true Chicagoland with Cook County being the ring leader. I wish we had a much cooler state like some of New Jersey part of NYC territory.
