To answer above question, I guess not all of NW Indiana falls into the Chicagoland area.
Michigan City for example is a bit out there.

Michigan City is not in Northwest Indiana it is in Northeast Indiana.

Nope. Anything in the northern part of Indiana not in Northwest Indiana is Northeast Indiana.

Well, it's not like the Chicago area just stops at the Chicago/Hammond border.

I also fail to see how Michigan City is not in Northwest Indiana And while it's definitely on the fringes of "Chicagoland," Michigan City is Cubs/Bears territory if that means anything, and it reachable from downtown in just over an hour by train.

In my opinion, its barely Chicagoland. I only refer to the original 6 counties as true Chicagoland with Cook County being the ring leader. I wish we had a much cooler state like some of New Jersey part of NYC territory.
