My brother is moving to Logan Square, coming from NYC/Brooklyn.

His birthday is coming up. I wanted to get him a few things that would help to "introduce him" to the Logan Square neighborhood.

Since I don't know the area well either, I was hoping for your input.

I'm thinking about small things that get him to visit some of the interesting places that can become potential favorites in the neighborhood and/or things that are classic "Logan Square".

Examples.... gift certificates to local theater or local pub/nice cafe/tasty restaurant.

My brother likes to eat all tasty things, getting a nice beer at a local place, movies, music of many types (he's a musician and teacher), a slice of perfect Margarita pizza, chess, cycling and learning new things.

Thanks for your ideas.

There are lots of good places there, but it's hard to beat Revolution Brewing for beer or Longman & Eagle for food and whisk(e)y, IMO.

Thanks for these ideas. I have read about these places and will definitely put them on the list.

I second these. Longman & Eagle is a casual Michelin starred place without the totally expensive prices and formalities.

Yeah, both places are excellent. Lula's, Yusho and the Whistler are both great places as well. Margies' Candies and the Logan Theater are two "classic" places.

Do you know what part of Logan Square he's moving to? If he's biking a lot then you should consider anything along Milwaukee Ave. - between biking and the Blue Line it's easy to get anywhere via Milwaukee. Wicker Park, Bucktown, Ukrainian Village, and West Town will all be very easy for him to get to. Some other things to consider would be a gift certificate for Boulevard Bikes or The Bike Lane, a butchering class at Butcher & Larder, or to any of the restaurants mentioned. I'll post some more ideas later when I have more time.

Forgot about Lula Cafe - good place. There's a bunch of places opening up on Milwaukee Avenue in the near future too. Also, Billy Sunday is good, as well as Whistler as someone already mentioned. If ramen is his thing, then Wasabi is good too, though expensive (but this is kind of the norm in Chicago for a big bowl of ramen).

A distillery is one of the things coming to Logan Square soon too, which is supposed to open in late July:

All great ideas you guys - thanks so much.

Lula's is great. We went there a couple weeks ago. That's the only place we have tried so far.

I was planning to take him to Yusho's for his birthday, and maybe have a beer first at Revolution. I know they are kind of far apart, but I figured Revolution is so classic that it would be a great first "pub" to visit. I also thought about having a drink at Ploughman's before dinner instead, since it is closer to Yusho's, but maybe that's more for dinner another time. Then we'll try "Jam" the next day.

He is going to live just West of the center of Logan Square... on Fullerton.

Maybe a coupon to Joe's barber shop (is that the good place?), ?New Wave coffee?, definitely the Logan theater, I'll look into the Mug club at Revolution. I read that the "Bike Lane" shop is good.

I love the idea of a butchering class...

Thanks so much for all these recommendations.

Just get the full hipster starter kit -- skinny jeans, retro eye wear, Dutch bicycle... I guess all the Butchering Class graduates go vegan except for bacon flavored beer and single pot distilled bacon infused whiskey and duck breast confit dopio barristas

Can we get more trendiness packed into a a single neighborhood?
