You appear to have an extraordinarily narrow aesthetic definition of "nice home" that is not generally shared by most people who chose to live in urban areas. The houses in the pictures you posted look like poorly-constructed mass-produced suburban trash to me.

Yeah, that's a bad one. The garage ate the house.

Clearly we are dealing with an issue of "bad taste", since I posted some true architectural gems all over the city and they were poo-poohed (at the bottom of page 7… NOT my McMansion or townhouse examples, which were awful). But we live in the land of Snooki and Wal-Mart, so I shouldn't be surprised.

It's a stretch to call that location McKinley Park. I would call anything west of Western Brighton Park, and nobody should be surprised to find cheap housing there.

Puke. Please feel free to move to whatever suburban hellhole contains that monstrosity.

Indeed. There will always be people who listen to Justin Bieber, eat at McDonald's, read Twilight, watch Honey Boo Boo, and consider mcmansions to be "nice architecture." 'Murrca. I for one am happy to live in a place where the majority of people know better.

Eh.
If you can honestly only find one appealing house in that list of true gems, while preferring the $200K cookie cutter crapboxes to which you posted links, Chicago is not for you. Might I suggest Wichita Falls?

200k within the city limits with a yard, space, and good school districts?

I figure there's probably only about 40% of the 9 million people in the metro area would like the exact same thing, so it's not like there's much competition.

People who has never lived in a true urban environment and are used to the kind off house the op wants will have a hard time adjusting to the styles of houses they have here. She will not be able to have it all. I think she realized that by now.
