The corruption comment was meant to be a little tongue in cheek. The crime comment, though, is 100% true and no amount of you and your ilk constantly lying changes that fact. Grow some ethics and then come talk about crime in Chicago because until you have some ethics I can't believe a single word out of your mouth.

I everyone is leaving Chicago, no one seems to have informed the housing market of this. Demand certainly doesn't appear to be decreasing.

Yeah, everyone is leaving... except for the 100,000 additional residents in the central area (CBD) since 2000.

Demand is very strong in safe areas that are still cheap and in the path of potential gentrification, somewhat softer but still strong at the higher end, and weak in poor crime plagued neighborhoods, though investors maybe spilling into East Garfield Park and parts of North Lawndale due to current lack of alternatives and a perception (and Census data) that the current residents are on their way out.

There are definitely a lot of buyers in the market right now competing over limited supply in the first markets I mentioned, so I would say our current conditions are more of a snapshot than a clear long term trend. I've advised in other threads that one would be wise to wait and see what happens when the supply starts reacting to this more.

But to get to your point, there doesn't seem to be any sign presently that professionals are leaving Chicago. In fact the number seem to be growing. I think poor people are leaving, and that seems to be okay with a lot of people. But it does signify that our local economy should be more diverse, and should strive to provide jobs for people who don't work in the Loop or have a college degree.

So many people leaving Chicago, and the answer is, slow or no job growth, high crime. Lots of high taxes. Corrupt politicians that run the State and the city

and, I am sure all those high rises will offer affordable housing, for normal, middle class people, who the city could care less about..
If you are a DINK, or Yuppie, you can probably get a loan to buy one of the ghastly monstrosities; a family, with a kid or 2, making 75 k a year or so, sorry, your are SOL..
King Rahm only cares about his corporate, wealthy donators, and i think he'll be on the outside looking in after the residents that are still stuck here kick him to the curb after the next election..
