It just seems far more important because C-D is the only place that UR's are allowed to post. I sure am glad C-D allowed it because I probably would never have learned the truth. I most likely would have stopped believing in hell anyway, but to learn that God has an awesome plan for ALL of humanity is something that I never would have learned of living in the bible belt.
However, it IS very important imo because the ET doctrine is driving people away from Jesus. I think that UR does way more to entice folks into a relationship with Jesus and God than ET does. There's no comparison really. It's extremely important to get the truth of UR out there, and the ETer's who think they own the board absolutely hate it and think we're devil worshipers. Ergo all the tension.
Indeed - get the word out! For 30 years I didn't even know biblical Christan UR was a possibility. Once I learned of it, I tried to disprove it, failed miserably, and then went on to embrace it once I had realized I had believed a lie for 30 years.
It seems to me that the topic is far more important than the other matters of the Christian faith. What's up with this?
Of course this topic is vastly important.
Two options: 1. God has a plan to save everyone and bring everyone to a knowledge of the truth. He is willing and able to achieve this in the long run.
OR
2. This life is your only chance to make the right choice and if you make the wrong one you burn in fire forever.
Gah. OF COURSE THIS IS IMPORTANT. If we can't get this right, nothing else really matters. This is the basics.
Does 2+2=4 or does 2+2=517.3? If we can't get this right there is no point in moving on to algebra or calculus.
And we do have our own room - its called the city-data Christianity forum! There are other threads if you are interested in other topics, just ignore the UR vs. ET debate if you want.
Insane, it is the biggest reason I have stop reading the Christianity forum. I have never been one to post much on this forum. But I use to lurk very often. I don't even do that much anymore. Like you said, every other thread is ET or UR. It is one hitting back at the other and vice versa. I wish those on both sides understood how the constant bickering simply drives people away.
I've been on both sides of the ET vs. UR debate and there is something I need to share....as a ETer I DESPISED UR's and I became very angry, confrontational and extremely un-Christlike. I left the forum on several different occasions but always came back to take another swing at the UR's. It is my own unique personal experience that allows me to see both sides of the coin, and now that I am a UR I see quite clearly who is doing the battling here.
UR's are simply looking for a voice, a way to be heard and C-D is it. We get called all sorts of things and Christian Universalism gets misrepresented all of the time on here. But I don't see the hatefulness and outright lies being told by the UR's that I see coming from the ETer's. Remember, I've been on both sides and I can speak personally about both, and as an ETer I was angry, bitter and resentful of anyone who disagreed, especially UR's.
Since I have become a UR, anyone who has been here for any length of time knows and sees the difference in me and my posts. I haven't had an infraction for months now, and I used to get them all of the time as an ETer!! That to me speaks volumes about the truthfulness of UR and how it truly changes people into what we are called to be....more Christlike. UR is all about love, the real love of God and we get defensive of that loving God when someone wants to portray Him as a monster who fries people for all of eternity.
I can only speak of what is inside of me now, and that's more love than I've ever known and ever would have known believing in ET. That needs to be talked about, it needs to be shared how someone so grotesquely stubborn and mean could be transformed into light and love.....it's the truth of UR. I'm not just here supporting UR, it's the truth. LOVE.
I think, for me, it's because I want to save people out there who have lost hope. I want people to know the madness of the doctrine of eternal torment can end. I want people to know that God doesn't torture grandma for eternity. I want others to know that they don't have to live in a fear-induced state of mind their entire lives.
I feel there are just too many religious bullies out there, and without somebody to balance out their bible bashing and their fear tactics, this place would go right back to Calvinists fighting Arminians anyway. Or pre-tribbers fighting post-tribbers. Or Catholics fighting Protestants. Or whatever.
Really.
I want people to understand who God is and what justice really means.
If we just allowed ETers to rule these boards, it would be one less place to go to find hope, and there aren't many other places to go. It's just too dark in the religious world, and I'm trying to make a dent.
There are thousands of people out there looking for light and grasping for straws, and I'm not going to just sit by and pat ETers on the head over these horrible doctrines.
I'm not going to do it.

Isn't Billy Graham somewhat like you? I heard he was all fire and brimstone in his younger days, but when I watched him in the 1960's he wasn't talking about all that nasty stuff. He spoke about God's love and always seemed very sincere to me.

That was a delightful read. Thanks for that. I think most URs were formerly ETers/Annihilationist. I was both starting with ET. I don't know of anyone personally that has ever been a UR that then become one of the others. Even if someone did, I think the ratio of comparision would be heavily sided that most switched to UR and not vice versa and that speaks volumes to me.
