You can look back in time well over 4 billion years through the Hubble telescope...You see a sampling of the grandeur that is creation and is God- Why would this force and intelligence bother punishing or tormenting human beings who are less than germs? What would be the point of it? Hell is a human construct...an ancient political one- You don't need hell in the here after- Human beings through cause and effect through their own actions can create a pretty effective hell here on earth.

Common sense dictates that when you are created and composed by God through nature...You live your life and die and then you are de-composed..by God through nature. I assume that you fall into oblivion...The fact that prior death most of us assume that we will disappear for eternity...That single second of this realization is HELL...and a second can be an eternity. Having said that- there is also the possibility we can be regenerated..but as they say "The dead they sleep - they know nothing"....IF we are resurrected it would not be our awakening to be punished and tormented - it would be in grace- and grace is the undeserved mercy of God. God is a creator...

The lake of fire that is our sun - sends energy to us and it generates matter which is us...this lake of fire composes our very beings...when we die perhaps a reverse motion takes place and our beings are decomposed and sent back into the sun from where we came- We rise out of the lake of fire and we fall back into that lake when we are done- I just hope there is no consciousness - dancing about in the center of the sun might be highly unpleasant.

According to Revelation 20 vs 13,14 the Bible's definition of the Bible's lake of fire is: 'second death", not the sun.

If the hell doctrine the mainstream church teaches about hell is true, then this shows the fruit of that teaching:

So what it comes down to is that you are angry that he would show love and mercy to one--but not to everyone? Is that it? Rather than rejoice for the fact that God saves some--you think it's unfair that he doesn't save all?

I'm curious--are you a progressive when it comes to politics? Do you think it's unfair for someone to have large amounts of wealth, while someone else doesn't? Do you want to take away that wealth and distribute it evenly so that everyone has exactly the same amount?

Hey Vizio, this can of worms says "off topic" on it...are you sure we'll catch anything? If you think that is the perspective of all progressives or even most, you've been watching FoxNews waay too long..though considering I use to think the same way, I can't really blame you

Anyways, if you wanted to actually compare the traditionalist idea of hell to a political system and not use any dictatorship or monarchy lingo and taking into account how few people under your model of traditionalism actually get into heaven compared to everyone else, at the very least it would be an "oligarchy" (a word most conservatives don't know and don't realize their policies have help lead towards btw) which is a far cry from the capitalist utopia you are apparently assuming God's fairness system would be since you used a strawman argument against progressivism, but like you, I'm just assuming...I'm sure in the end we will both be guilty of classic false equivalency and not alot of fish caught

Yes, if we were a truly advanced society we would not even talk about money. In fact money would no exist.

No-----------not at all.

As of now we need as many capitalists as possible (excluding crony capitalism). We need several hundred Bill Gates. In our primitive state we need greed as a motivation factor to produce, so capitalism rules (rightfully so).

Hell is the absence of God.

So, are you saying that while Jesus was in the Bible's temporary hell he was absent from God ?

However, the hot hell doctrine of mainstream churches can not be true but be a religious-myth hell just taught as Scripture but not found in Scripture because the Bible's hell [sheol ] is temporary and just a stone cold sleeping place for the dead.

The OP has an interesting thought, but it is false based on what Jesus taught

.Mt 5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Mt 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Lk 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
Mt 13:42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth

IMHO, its better to trust Jesus words rather than the imagination of your own mind.
