I drove a '65 Dart for years. It was ok transportation at the time, but I sure wouldn't want to go back to it. It was not a chick magnet by any means. Have no interest in the new Dart either. The Dart I had was very slow. It had poor power on the highway. I don't believe it had an overdrive. Reverse didn't work in it for quite awhile. Had to accelerate to go downhill. Steering was loose and the brakes were always needing work. Had carburetor problems. Got rear ended in it a few times. There was something about the brake lights that was hard to see. It rusted and things in the trunk, usually the lug wrench, would drop through the rust hole and into the street when turning. It was extremely cold blooded. Took a long time to warm up on cold mornings and it would often die for about the first 10 to 15 minutes of driving. It would die when it was warm too. The defrost was poor and the parking bake would freeze. Had to scrape the inside of the window. Had to reach way underneath and grab the cable to release the parking brake. I don't believe I ever used the seat belts in it. They were lap belts. It did corner better than my sister's '69 Nova though.
I was in high school in the late 70's/early 80's. At that time, Dodge Darts were plentiful on the road and numerous enough to be had used for a couple hundred dollars. The slant 6 was virtually indestructable. Yes they were boring-looking, "appliance reliable (thanks sailordave) transportation, and easy to work on. In short, everything a high school junior/senior would want in a car.
Personally, I always liked their look.
