Not really development, but this was a great event. I'd love to see this once a year:

A big day for development deals at Cincinnati City Hall
Quote:
Cincinnati City Council approved three key deals that will bring more apartments to downtown, add more residents and retail to the Banks and help fund a technology campus in Over-the-Rhine.

Council approved a $3.5 million grant on Wednesday to North American Properties and NorthPointe Group so they can build a seven-story apartment building on top of a parking garage at Seventh and Broadway.

The $22.3 million project, which will include 111 high-end apartment units, has been in the works since 2002. There is already retail space on the first floor of the garage.

Is Banks Phase IIA saving room for a grocery?
Quote:
The space could be used by one 40,000-square-foot tenant or divided into two 20,000-square-foot spaces. One of the users Swadel said the Banks would like to land is a grocery store.

“We would love one,” Swadel told me Tuesday afternoon. “A number of groups have attempted to land one in downtown. We’ll keep pursuing that, but no promises.”

Metro unveils Metro*Plus fleet; Service launches Aug. 19
Quote:
The ten new buses that will serve the Metro*Plus bus rapid transit (BRT) demonstration project along Montgomery Road were unveiled last Friday at the Riverfront Transit Center Downtown.

Metro*Plus, a limited-stop transit service that will connect Downtown with Kenwood beginning August 19, is the latest idea from local business, government, and transportation leaders to address our region's mobility challenges.

The service will offer direct connections to Uptown, Downtown, and The Banks – with no transfers needed. It will also serve students of the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University and will offer quick transfers to Cincinnati
State Technical and Community College.

New owner of Terrace Plaza plans to reopen hotel
Quote:
The new owner of the former Terrace Plaza Hotel in downtown Cincinnati said the building will reopen as a hotel.

Alan Friedberg, managing principal of the limited liability company that purchased the hotel earlier this year,
said he’s focused on reopening the hotel portion of the 20-story building. But it will take some time, and a lot of work, to makeover the 15 W. Sixth St. building that has been mostly vacant for three years.

All of this development is kind of overwhelming. Cincinnati is growing 24/7 it seems. I'm actually more excited about the apartments/condos downtown and in OTR than The Banks at this point.

Yeah, the real estate boom of the early and mid-2000s totally passed Cincinnati by, relative to other cities. We had a number of large buildings redeveloped into apartments and condos (Krippendorf, Power, McAlpin, etc.), and Queen City Square got off the ground right before the crash, but it really wasn't enough to make a dent in how bad Downtown had become.

Now it seems like we're having at least one big project announced every month.

Go to another city and note just how much being developed looks like it was built in the last 10 years. When I first moved to Chicago at the end of the boom, I was blown away by how much progress had happened in the city in the previous 10 years.

Its starting in Cincy finally - the riots really did delay this from happening there.

Dunnhumby zips up support for HQ design
Quote:
The most striking aspect of the nine-story dunnhumby centre, whose design was finally revealed Tuesday, is a jagged “zipper” of glass cutting through a facade of dark gray concrete and windows on two sides of the building.

“We wanted to show what we do,” Dave Palm, senior vice president of dunnhumbyUSA, said in an interview. “The data we work with with our clients is not symmetrical.”

In addition, Palm said, the “zipper” is made of glass to provide a sense of openness: “We’re not behind a fortress of secrecy.”
