And have you ever tried to find a car rental agency downtown, especially close to the bus terminal? And why are downtown car rentals any more less expensive than an airport location? The OP would be better off to fly from CVG to DAY to rent for $300 less than the CVG pickup. A lot less hassle and frustration. I am also assuming they are coming into CVG on Delta since everyone seems to think that is the only choice. If they rebook their ticket for destination DAY may be little additional charge. May actually be cheaper the crazy way airlines assess fees.

The Tank 2X bus stops on Race, between 4th & 5th, right over by several car rental agencies. Within closer walking distance than from the baggage carousel to the Hertz/whatever shuttle pick-up point. I know in your head public transit can't possibly be functional, but in the real world it is.

And if the downtown agencies are too expensive? You can transfer buses at Government Square, with minimal walking, to some other rental agency in the area that has a bus stop nearby.

All of these options are far, far easier than getting to Dayton. If it saves $300, then I don't see why you're pooh-poohing the possibilities.

Rather than guessing as to which location is cheaper, if the OP would post their times and dates and estimated mileage, it would be pretty easy to determine where the best deals are.

There are a ton of deals out there right now. Last week, I rented a car for a road trip from Hertz for $106/ wk including taxes in Chicagoland. This past weekend, I rented a car from Hertz for a three day weekend for $33 taxes included.

Glad you believe running all over Hell's half acre is a pleasant time. I get the impression the OP is coming here on a business trip, don't know from where. But traveling here is enough, running through a bunch of hoops figuring out how to get to Dayton is worse. OP - investigate a one-way car rental from CVG to DAY and that is all, contact several outfits operating out of CVG. Turn that car in and rent another totally for your stay in Dayton. There is more than one way to try and come out ahead here.

OP, I have nothing really to offer beyond what others have said--other than a reminder that natininja does not live here.

I am coming with 3 kids under 5 years of age and 9 bags so going downtown to get a rental is not gonna happen. There are some great deals out there but not for Cincinnati (that I found anyway). There is a deal in Dayton which is why I wanted the option of driving there to pick up (was just gonna send the hubby while I stayed at the hotel). Either way thank you all again for your input, think I'll just rent from Cincy airport and pay the difference.

Coming to stay, relocating from the Middle East to Cincinnati.

When you say there are 3 kids under 5 and you are coming here to stay that certainly sets the tone. Welcome to the area and hope you find it agreeable. I noticed another thread where you inquired about Kings SD preschool. If the price is right and you find a place to live in the district go for it. It is a fine location.

If you can stay at the hotel while your husband fetches a car from Dayton, then you could stay at the hotel while your husband fetches a car (sans luggage) from Downtown or elsewhere.

Anyway, do what you will. Hopefully someone here has been of some assistance. And I hope you and your family find Greater Cincinnati (and the USA in general) to your liking. Welcome to America.

But... but... but... The cars are BETTER in Dayton. Look see how long they last! Dayton knows about cars. Cincinnati makes soap. (And, Evendale makes jet engines.)
