Miami has a lot of good spots in large concentrations, but sadly it is overly catered to clubs. At least LA has a better variety of clubs, lounges, dive bars, sports bars, etc. Sure most of them close at 2 but you cant compare a city like Miami to a humongous city like Los Angeles which caters to a more diverse party crowd.
Miami lives off her nightlife in a way that LA doesn't. That means Miami punches above her weight (like Las Vegas and New Orleans do) in this category.
And both Los Angeles and Miami are dominated by clubs but both have bar scenes. In the case of Miami, it can be found in Hollywood/Ft Lauderdale (sports bars)

Miami lives off her nightlife more than LA because LA has more important things to live up to.

Of course you can, especially when you have a world-class nightlife city. That might be one of the few areas where even though Miami's waay smaller than LA, can actually go toe-to-toe or beat LA in.

Exactly, many great sports bars and dive bars further north in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

2am is too early for a homongus city like LA it's sad...that's why Miami is always mentioned as a big party destination because so many places .. Plus there are 24 hour spots in Miami. In LA people start going out around 11am. I'm still taking a nap at the time..

There are plenty of clubs that stay open til 5 am or even 8 am in LA. Sure they dont sell alcohol for a couple hours but it's not that bad. Plus the after parties are crazy after the bars and clubs close

All of that happens in Miami, just with the alcohol

Those after hour spots are in few numbers. Majority of LA nightlife shuts down at 2:30. Miami doesn't do after hours because almost every club strip club is open till we we hours in the morning. Again there are 24 hour spots Miami. Miami sells alcohol all night there is no last call.
