At this point all cities are trending downwards compared to the 90's but there is only a handfull of cities at this point who are either not changing or trending updwards.

Yea the rate is going up though the numbers are going down. I think in the 90s, Detroit had something like 600 murders a year. Of course then the population was 1.02 million. By 2000, the population fell to 950,000 with years ending in 300 and 400 totals.

2011 ended on 344 and 2012 ended on 379. The lowest number since 1967 was 308 for 2010. Overall, the homicide count isn't falling as fast as the population count so the overall rate continually stays up.

New York City has had 105 murders as of 5/12/13 not 97. And this happened since then:

I was going by what this guy has on his site: burgersub.org - maps of murder.

It's apparently a little behind, his site says Baltimore has had 77 but the Baltimore Sun says 80. I edited my previous post to 106

It's a good thing to see that crime is down in most cities. Especially dc, NYC, Chicago and L.A. The more I continue my criminology education the more impressed I am .

It looks like this year Philadelphia will have a lower rate than Chicago. Maybe this will convince people that Philly is INDEED better and safer than Chicago instead of calling it BS.

Haha. New York's not safe despite what the numbers say.

Philadelphia destroys all those cities in crime reduction.
