?? Chicago's rate has fallen faster than Philly this year and Philly's murder rate is currently about 30% higher than Chicago.

Do you just make random stuff up cause you think it sounds good?

I would think it's kinda embarassing when people call you out after googling for 4 seconds and on top of that inadvertently point out that Philly is actually not INDEED better and safer, but has a murder rate almost 1/3 higher.

As of today, and I know these aren't complete numbers, but through 5/20/2013, Philly's homicide rate is 5.179 per 100k while Chicago's is 4.451 per 100k. This is using official 2010 census populations.

But Philly grew by like a million people since then, so it's rate is lower.

Why are you even bothering to respond to him?

Also, why are you going to extremes claiming Philly's murder rate is 30% and 1/3 higher? That's absurd.

Technically it's I believe..16% higher this year. But the rates aren't terribly different. Philly averages like 0.7 more homicides per 100k this year than Chicago.

Absurd how??

Philly has had 92 murders for 1.54 million people. That's 5.97/100,000.
Chicago has had 120 murders for 2.71 million people. That's 4.43/100,000.

5.97 is 35% higher than 4.43.

It just sounds completely ridiculous to put it that way. These two aren't that much different when it comes to crime. IDK why you would paint one in a negative light when they both face the same problems and stigmas. Are you honestly saying Philadelphia is much more dangerous than Chicago

They aren't terribly different, but he still stated a fact. That's why percentages without context can be "dangerous."

Exactly what I'm saying. Saying Philadelphia is 30% more dangerous than Chicago just sounds ridiculous. They are practically neck and neck in crime rates.
