As of 5/15/13:

Washington D.C.

05/15/2013: 24 -20.0%
05/15/2012: 30

D.C. is going to record under the total of some pretty safe cities this year in homicide's. I think we could see D.C. under 70 homicides this year.

Chicago:

2013: 111
2012: 187
-41%

A full 38% of our homicides happened in January. Since then it's down 54% YOY.

Indy is now up to 51, which is over half the NYC total at 10% of the population. Up 33% from last year. Curious what's driving it - or maybe just a random fluctuation.

So if NYC had Indianapolis murder rate, it would be at 510 murders to date? Where is BRG?

I'm pretty sure it's BRG that is driving Indianapolitans to kill.

Detroit as of May 12th.

2013: 113
2012: 124
2011: 118
2010: 106
2009: 134
2008: 96
2007: 110
2006: 133
2005: 116
2004: 148
2003: 125

For an 10-year average, Detroit is around 122 homicides for this time of the year with the only outlier being 2008. That was a 22% decrease below average. Meanwhile, the worst year, being 2004, was an 18% increase above average. This year is 8% below average.

Most years are below the average but the years 2004, 2006, and 2009 skew the data upwards. Either way, Detroit still tops the homicide rates with its decreasing population and has pretty high counts even compared to other big cities;

To be on par with Chicago's current homicide rate, Detroit would have to drop to just 30 homicides at this point in the year.

To be on par with New York City, Detroit would have to manage having only 8 homicides.

Without looking up any other cities, New Orleans seems to be the only city on par with Detroit.

So Detroit is currently leading the country in sheer number of murders?

Probably if Chicago's the other other city with the highest amount. I mean, a gap of only 2 murders can easily change either way.

Steady homocides in Detriot means the rate is going up because in 2004, Detroit probably had 200,000 moré people.
