Many people say El Paso sucks. But compared to Gary, Indiana, which city is better?

Marty Robbins never wrote a song about Gary, Indiana.

Having been through both, I would say El Paso for me. Love the southwest and border area. Also El Paso got alot of things going for it at the moment.

I have never been to El Paso, but Gary is an interesting place. I took my wife to Gary once to show her what life was like outside the rural/suburban world which was all she knew. She didn't like it.

El Paso looks worse than it actually is since it is the brownest (terrain) of any major city in the country.

El Paso is actually safer than most people think with a very low violent crime rate. Now if this was Juarez vs. Gary then you'd have something here.

2013 murders...

Gary, IN - 55 (population 78,000)
El Paso, TX - 11 (population 674,000)

Comparing Gary to El Paso is like comparing inner city Detroit to San Diego.

While El Paso is a very poor city by national standards, it's much less dangerous and blighted than Gary, but then again, what city isn't?

That, plus the weather, scenery and culture of El Paso are far superior to that of Gary.

No comparison, IMO. El Paso, FTW.

I would rather live in Gary, as there are some nicer areas...near the Dunes and whatnot. El Paso is pretty far outside the weather and culture I enjoy. Gary is legit bad for the most part, though. 2 booby prizes.

I'd go with Gary. You could buy a house there for cheap and you're a half hour from downtown Chicago.
