The trouble from ice storms surely rivals tornadoes in Oklahoma City. I've never lived through ice storms that bad. The longest lasting weather related power outage I've had only lasted all night and into much of the next afternoon and it wasn't from an ice storm, rather it was from a couple of tornadoes on separate occasions.

But as many have said, an ice storm of such magnitude is very rare even in OKC. Most of OKC got power back within 24 hours, it just so happened that some parts didn't get it for a week. And I'm sure a Des Moines blizzard can be just as, if not more, annoying and much more frequent than an OKC ice storm.

OKC gets a bad rap for ice storm/tornado related damage, but if OKC didn't have either, OKC would be weather paradise. The temps in OKC are very enjoyable and mild, and the sunshine abundant. The only real negative is the damage from the occasional extreme weather in OKC. Comfort wise, OKC has awesome weather.

Yes, I thought it was remarkable how OKC only got up to 100 degrees only once or twice last summer.

Most of OKC got power back with 24 hours? Hmm, an OKC FB friend just wrote, "I'm gonna my first hot shower in almost 2 weeks."
