Just proves that Memphis doesn't belong in the same conversation with progressive cities like Austin and Nashville that think and operate like actual CITIES instead of like an overgrown, podunk, TOWN.

WOOOOOW REALLY, Do you Even READ!! Dude I Grew up in Both Cities, Memphians Don't EVEN HATE on Nashville, And Most Memphians Like Nashville, and Yes It may be true that Nashville has a Uppity Complex, But Even Nashvillians Tend to Like Memphis When They Actually Visit or at least can find some charm among it's Grit, Every Time Memphis Comes up ignorance like this gets perpetuated. I GREW UP IN TENNESSEE So unlike the IGNORANT COMMENTS above, I CAN TELL IT LIKE IT IS.

1."That's how most people in Memphis are when it comes to Nashville: jealous and bitter". INCORRECT INCORRECT INCORRECT. 1, Memphians Tend to Like Nashville, 2 Folks from Nashville who visit Memphis tend to Find at least SOME Charm about the city, 3 The people from Memphis Who Don't get on City Data probably don't even Know or care that Nashville is becoming larger. 4 Give 1 Example of a Memphian being BITTER towards Nashville ONE!

No offense but almost every city is claiming they are the Millennial Mecca.

You can live in a completely safe and affordable community around Memphis with a 30 mile commute to work, and with traffic you'll get there sooner than living half the distance from work and paying hundreds of thousands more in Nashville. But most likely, you'll live outside the city and have an hour commute in Nashville if you don't have a lot of income or want an apartment. Stress factors into QOL for me.

Or you could go to one of the great local bars or restaurants without having massive crowds and lines out the door like Nashville, or expensive and limited parking. I haven't been to Austin in a while, but I never recall this being an issue. Second street was packed every night, but the street was closed off, with plenty of room and bars, and it was cheap. Broadway should be held to a higher standard because it absolutely could be a great night spot, but it's expensive, touristy, limited in appeal, and less enjoyable due to traffic IMO. The other places in town have problems with congestion, crowds, and parking as well. Not for me.

I agree with you Nashville is in much better shape. But I've found it difficult to enjoy it's amenities because of the hurdles I have to overcome to do so. It's outgrown itself, IMO.
I've seen you make the "hour commute" comment before, and I didn't correct you. But this time I will. The average commute in Nashville in 2013 was 26 minutes, according to a study of average commute times in the South. Only 15% of people in Nashville commute for 45 min or longer.
That may have increased a bit, but I don't know a single person with a commute of 45 min or longer.

Your posts have always come across as a Memphis person with a chip on your shoulder about Nashville's growth.

And how clever of you to point out that Nashville is "high in crime" yet you conveniently forget to point out that Memphis is even higher.

And just how does Memphis "feature other cultures" while Nashville "just commercialism"? Why is the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville instead of Memphis? Why are there more HBCUs in Nashville than Memphis? More Hispanics? More foreign-born residents?

And quit pretending that the only people with a superiority complex are in Nashville. I lived in Memphis back when Memphis was the largest city in Tennessee, and believe me the disdain from Memphians towards Nashville was palpable. It grew to a fever pitch when the Houston Oilers leapfrogged over Memphis to relocate to Nashville. Oh, the snide jokes about Nashville trailer parks and country bumpkins that came from those "enlightened" Memphians. Even when Memphis politicians ruled the state with an iron fist (Boss Crump et al) they looked down their nose at pretty much anyone from east of Shelby County.

Do you really want to get into a peeing contest about which city has more violent crime? Seriously. My former colleague when I lived in Memphis was raped in her own home, and then her home was burned down around her. In CORDOVA.
Looks like he deleted his fact free diatribe.

Maybe he checked the web and figured out that Nashville consistently rates as one of the happiest cities in the country.

Or remembered that Memphis constantly makes to news for violent crimes. Or that fact that Memphis has had three times the murders of Nashville.

Or the constant huge problems with schools in Memphis. They just went through a huge upheaval with the system, and the suburbs had to racers form their own systems to avoid getting stuck in the Memphis system.

Nashville has tons of schools that consistently rate as top schools in the nation- and they are located in multiple parts of the Nashville Metro, including 2 high schools in the heart of the city.

I grew up in Memohis and while there are some positive things about the city, I much prefer Nashville. It's cleaner, prettier, and a very easy place to raise a family. And there is so much to do, it's hard to keep up with all the options. I love the diversity of city and the creative vibe. There is a reason so many celebrities have moved here.

^ Lol and Texas thought Dallas and Houston had a rivalry
No one outside of Tennessee really cares about the Nashville Memphis thing they are both fun cities for their size even more fun than some larger cities and they both have issues so can we leave it at that geez

Never understood why anybody would want their city to have explosive growth. I prefer slow/manageable growth.

That was in 2013. Not only has it grown, but real estate prices have shot up since then, leading many newcomers to have to live in places like Clarksville, Murphreesboro, and other places which aren't ideal for a commute. Since I moved here in late 2014, rental properties have gone up at least 40% for most areas. I'd think the average has gone up since then.

I like Nashville fine, but I can acknowledge a city's faults at the same time (I'm from Memphis, after all). If someone has nothing but good things to say about Nashville and nothing but bad about Memphis, I get irritated. But most down to earth, open-minded people from either like both. But there seems to be more hesitation for people from Nashville to visit Memphis, which I guess I get.
