It's no different from Gayle King (from Maryland):

Agree about professional not equaling race’s accent. Again, if you now want to expand the boundaries from cities (Chicago vs Baltimore/DC) to states (your clip of R Kelly compared to someone from Maryland), there are even more non Southern blacks in Illinois (at the state level you will hear more midwestern accents) vs MD.

The only point I’m trying to make is that you won’t find many native blacks in Baltimore or DC, that have no hint of a Southern twang in their accent, whereas in Chicago, there are many examples of black natives who have no southern twang in their accents. Here are just a few examples of native black Chicagoans (there are dozens more):

You can’t post many examples like this from Baltimore or DC because most native blacks have at least a hint of southern twang. It’s what makes blacks from the DMV so discernibly different from northeast blacks (Philly, NY/NJ, Boston, etc.).

You can’t provide any examples of native Baltimorians who sound like Briant Gumble or Mike Wilbon, or countless others. I can given numerous examples of black native Chicagoans who have ZERO hint of a southern accent. There are few (if any) examples of black Baltimorians.

To me, Monique definitely has some southern twang to her accent. Although maybe because I am white, I’m not fully knowledgeable about the intricacies of what constitutes a Black Southern accent.

Baltimore’s current mayor is another example.

Compare Baltimore’s mayor to Chicago’s mayor (both black), and hear the difference. To me, Baltimore’s mayor clearly has more of a southern twang. Again, it’s another example showing that Baltimore’s blacks are more southern.

Chicago's Mayor has no discernable accent whatsoever. Her lack of an accent is not what I heard while I was in Chicago. Baltimore's Mayor has a Baltimore accent. It doesn't sound like a classic southern accent.

A heavy Chicago accent.

Notice how he says, "outta huh." When he says "on," it sounds like "own." "Nines" sounds like "Nans."

The Chicago accent sounds more southern.

^^^ @personone I provided examples of people from the Baltimore-Washington region. Gayle King and Grant Hill are both from metropolitan DC. Gayle is from Silver Spring not just (anywhere Maryland). What are you getting at here?

Allison Seymour same thing:

I told you earlier that Jada Pinkett, Toni Braxton, Mario, Rudy Gay, Nicole Ari Parker have no "southern twang" in their speech, and they're all from Baltimore.

No. I’m talking about cities. Grant Hill is from Reston or Herndon (originally from Texas). Not sure about Gayle King. You know how suburbs are different and can influence speech. The examples I gave was of black Chicagoans, born and raised in the city.

I'm not sure why he insinuated that examples could not be provided.

In other southern cities/regions the southern accent gets heavier outside of the city, yet you want to exclude people from outside the cities propers of Baltimore and DC. You can't have it both ways.

The people who I gave examples of, aside from Toni Braxton ( who grew up by BWI) were all from the City.
