There will have to be some mental gymnastics to find it. All that was said was Austin skyline lacks a recognizable character as of now compared to Dallas. That can surely change if the current proposals are built in the near future. That’s not bashing whatsoever. Austin is clearly now number 3 in the state but stats have showed that it has a ways to go to catch Dallas as far as a number of skyscrapers. Again, not bashing or punching bag. His idea that Texans hate Austin is a theory in his own mind.

Texans are the #1 relocatees to Austin despite popular belief.

But yea Austin’s skyline really surprised me when I first saw it. It’s not a contender to Atlanta, Dallas or Houston but it definitely punches above its weight.

I like Austin's skyline, I think it's better looking than Dallas skyline personally. I do understand why some think it has less character, but don't count me among them.

As far as who'll have more 400 footers in 20 years I think it'll probably be very close. I doubt that a lot of the speculative really tall buildings (particularly in Dallas) will end up being built, but they should both still get some good additions in that timeframe. I think it'll be Dallas by a hair with Austin in close pursuit by 2040.

A little above mediocre skyline at best. Cry about it

Austin’s skyline has a nice view when walking on the river. That’s unmatched by its pictures. That’s what really gives it extra points.

Part of what makes the skyline isn’t just the skyscrapers but there background mid rises too. This is why Austin is a distant thirds in my opinion. When you’re viewing from a high point, you see much more in the background in Dallas.

But this is more of an objective thread tho. It's not asking which people like more; that's a more subjective analysis.

I very much prefer Dallas.
I will even go as far as to say I do not like Austin.
But in answer to the thread I started yes, Austin could surpass Dallas for 400+ ft buildings.

There are people who constantly post unconstructively harsh criticisms of certain cities and I would bet my last dollar that Austin receives the least amount of that type of criticism from among all the major metros in Texas.

I have heard people post just flat out hateful and derogatory things about DFW AND Houston. Not so much about Austin. I have heard a lot of people express their preference for Houston and Dallas over Austin, I have heard people don't like the traffic but that's light compared to what I see about other cities.

But just because I would rather live in Dallas than Austin doesn't mean I can't look at the question objectively and see the rate Austin throws up these towers and the almost complete absence of new ones in Dallas and say that Yes, I think Austin will in the not too distant future have more of these type of buildings

The top 6 buildings in Dallas minus Renassiance tower looks better than anything in Austin and I would throw city place tower in there too. You can tell that architects back in the day paid a lot closer attention to details than these modern architecture/ developers. Austin is not in the same league as Dallas. Period!

Disagree. Agree with your last sentence, but Austin’s buildings aren’t that bland

These modern condo towers are pretty bland everywhere Dallas included. Dallas saving grace are those 80’s skyscrapers that bring a whole lot more character. It’s enough character in Dallas skyline that the bland skyscrapers of today don’t really make a difference and looks more like infill. Austin doesn’t have that luxury. We’re comparing a skyline of diversity from different time periods to a skyline that only recently blossomed within the last 2 decades. So yeah it looks pretty bland to those that skyscraper enthusiasts. That’s no knock on Austin.
