What if I flipped a garbage can over it? Not the most attractive, but wouldn't it retain heat AND stay dry during the colder months?
you could do that but it would need some sun on the warmer days and when it starts to get too big you are gonna find it harder and harder to protect it.
I had a couple that died last year, I think it was my protection method though.
Hey desert sun, aren't you suppose to wrap em up like this when it's cold out?
I know it looks ugly (and depressing), but at least when the winter is over, they still look half way decent...
Where is that? People actually go through that much trouble just to have palm trees in their yard? those queen palms on the right look like crap too in the summer photo.
Why doesn't Paris and London have palms when winters are mild? (Rarely below freezing or snow)?
What is the thick, short palm tree called? I love them!
Actually, I saw quite a number of palms in Ireland. Temps rarely get much below freezing and it's pretty damp most of the year, so it's an ideal climate.

Wherever the above location is, it appears queen palms are not happy there [may be too cold during winter]. Many palms do not do well if the temperature drops below freezing & some palms can't tolerate temperatures below 50F
I am surprised that South Florida and Hawaii haven't chime in and downloaded pictures here on this thread, because they have the most beautiful variety of palm trees in the United States hands down, there is no comparison.
