Whenever I go to Boston I feel like it's just dirty and the people are extremely miserable and unfriendly. A lot of the buildings are boring old financial establishments and I'm not one to hang out at bars, so that might be the issue with me.
Dead downtown
Few outdoor activities
No mountains or beaches or deserts
Domination of business in everything
Few cultural centers/activities
No "star" attraction like Indy 500 or Statue of Liberty or even the Space Needle
A climate that encourages watching TV most of the time
Based on a large city - top 10 Metro areas - I'd have to say Houston. It's not boring per se, but it lacks the vibe that it's peer cities have, at least based on my experiences.
Phoenix, Arizona and any city in Central Valley, California (Fresno, Bakersfield, Modesto) are easily the most boring cities in the Western Hemisphere. You could throw Salt Lake City in there as well.
What makes Phoenix so boring is that it is considered a large city, but really feels more like a giant suburban area. It's a city of neverending strip malls that all look the same, and it completely lacks in walkable neighborhoods. The music scene here (for me) completely sucks. Most of my favorite bands skip this area. There really is nothing to do here.
I lived in Fresno and I would just say it's a smaller version of Phoenix.
I have also lived in Missoula and Portland in the PacNW, and even though Missoula is a small town, it has a lot more going on than Fresno or Phoenix. Portland is unbeatable in this crowd, and easily my favorite city along with Seattle and San Francisco.
Disagree. Blah Blah Blah (theres that word again) "suburban". I always find something to do in Phoenix. Anything from going to First Friday downtown to walking Tempe Townlake. I like that Phoenix has countless shopping attractions, be thankful you have them. Love the desert btw.
In the top 10 METRO areas rank, because sometimes cities have populations of 450,000 and 4 million in the metro, it would be:
Dallas.
It has a lot of nice people and is welcoming to transplants, but the area is aesthetically foreboding to me ... and you can't escape from that for miles and miles.
