We know some people that moved to Las Vegas area from Cleveland. They came back for visit. They say, Vegas "feels alive or vibrant," while Cleveland has a feel of death about it. Well, what can you say, that is the C-Town feel and it is discouraging. For some people, any form of discouragement causes a deep, dark depression from which they can't possibly emerge. I consider these people weak and hardly worth discussing, but we do. So, I mention them.

Our friends in Vegas miss their families very much and it cost them a whole bunch of money to move across the country. Personally, I think they are idiots. (they didn't leave for work)

On the other hand, I know someone who left a place that was full of crime and people who hated him. He went somewhere that people accepted him and where the streets are much safer. He seems like smart guy to me.

Hey Chef,
I lived in Vegas for 2 years in the early 90's. I have some stories! Again, Vegas is a very transient place, besides the lot of people there looking for quick easy money. Maybe it has changes since then? Also, it is in a valley so it is very smoggy.
What I have just heard is that the gas prices and the airline prices are going to really effect Vegas. Maybe your friends will be coming home non too soon!
This is also what I heard today on the news...that by the year 2025 global warming will really be heating up areas like LA, Florida etc. to temps of 125. Maybe you are sitting on prime real estate! Everyone will move to Cleveland for the weather!!!!!

Ha ha, you have to love liberal propoganda. Never mind that the hottest year on record was 1934 and there has been no warming in the past 10 years. The sky is falling!

Yeah, it's the Planetary Crisis that only a powerful World Government can solve. I guess they call that: using marketing to create demand for your product (world government). Of course, Corn Flakes won't really make you thinner and the planet doesn't really need you to save it I reckon it appeals to our ego to believe that we have the power to destroy/save Planet Earth and it fills a void for God (albeit, poorly and shortly) to worship The Planet.

Anyway though, Vegas is pretty hot! lol And I hear those gas prices are gonna put a kink in their business. Also, they say it's a transient place, which has got to suck. You know, people in to make a fast buck and get out; they don't give a crap about the town. It's like living in a college town; everyone always leaves you!

Default water

It isn't "liberal propaganda" that the hotter areas are running out of water and that they want Cleveland's. Cleveland needs to protect the Great Lakes or lose them to the areas everyone moved to. (Think about that madness for a minute).

Cleveland is a much different city than Las Vegas. For one las Vegas is in the desert and has no water around. Another thing is that Vegas is growing at the same rate that Cleveland was growing in its prime so Vegas is much much newer than Cleveland and thriving. Most of Las Vegas jobs are based on gambling, entertainment though and just the fact that its growing so fast which brings a lot of job opportunities.

Personally, I really dont feel that Las Vegas should have been built in the first place, I dont really get it. They need to get water from areas far away and its in the middle of the desert with highs in the summer reaching 110 degrees on average and its a very dry heat. Cleveland on the other hand will win in the long run, with milder summer temperatures and the lake being directly next to it. But personally I feel that we should bring casinos to Cleveland, we are losing millions of dollars to other states when we could be keeping that money and bringing jobs at the same time. Along with attracting people from other areas to Cleveland to gamble depending on what the casinos and surrounding attractions are like.

Also, dont forget that if global warming is real, Cleveland will be tropical pretty soon.

Default Whats the holdout?

Cleveland has NOTHING at its waterfront. Wouldn't Las Vegas kill to have that lakeshore?
Or ANY major city without one? The possibilities....what's the holdout???

I think the water thing isn't as bad as the hype for a couple of reasons. First, they say there's a huge underground "lake" out west. Second, we already have desalination technology (turning salt water into fresh water). As the demand increases around the World for water (think The Middle East: lots of cash and growing population), the cost of desalination will plummet and as Nuclear Power comes online, the energy required to process salt water into fresh water will become cheaper and easier to produce on a massive scale. So, we appear to be fine on water and energy. Although, the media will never stop crying wolf. Apparently, they are rapacious.

Ever been to Atlantic City? I wouldn't want it in my backyard.

Cleveland has the Clinic. When that leaves, maybe you'll get a casino. lol

Free Trade killed the good jobs in Cleveland and all over the country; it isn't just about manufacturing anymore. If we want to maintain all the nice things we take for granted in America (like healthcare), then we are gonna need a whole lot more revenue. Traditionally, we have raised that through tariffs on foreign goods (it's like a sales tax on stuff that comes from countries that we compete with). That policy would bring a lot of good jobs back to America. Washington could radically change the course of the country in 10 years. All it lacks is the will to do it.
