It's not quite as simple as "choose one of these fields and you will prosper". There are a lot of people who don't have the aptitude or desire for an engineering career and an engineering degree would be completely wasted on them. Similarly, there are successful people with all kinds of degrees.

Doing a realistic cost/benefit for college is definitely a good idea, though.

What's with all this the degree or education is the end all to be all for a career?

Plus, that guy in the OP post told me absolutely nothing.

Excellent point as well.

Remember kids, don't listen to people who try to force their misguided agendas and personal biases down your throat.
I agree. If everyone was an accountant, engineer or doctor there would way too many graduates and not enough jobs. Also not everyone is cut out to be those things. My math skills are pretty bad. Math has always been hard for me. Accounting sounds awful. Spending my whole life crunching numbers sounds so boring. I don't care how much money these professions make.

Amazing how every single reply is based on the assumption that everyone is going to get a degree.

Did any of you ever consider the possibility of not going to college at all? It seems that the brain washing of modern grade schooling is quite strong these days.

There are loads of people who don't want to go to college and choose not to. It's not compulsory.

C) a holder of a degree in the liberal arts (non STEM) and does not have a job in his/her chosen field and thus disgruntled and wants to hate on these majors
D) a non degreed person who just doesn't understand the value of any degree that s/he doesn't come directly in contact with
E) a non degreed person who just hates on the college educated
F) someone who really does care about any of it but really likes pushing buttons
Per below, I vote D.

Don't we have 100,000 unemployed engineers in this country already?

Such a worthless degree, I tell you.
