Not really. That is a pretty wide sweeping claim to make from a person that didn't have to worry about paying any money for college.
I went to school from 03-07. I have no loans. In my case I was fortunate enough to get about $10k in scholarships (merit based, not income based). I worked part time during the year and full time during the summer which covered at least 1/3 of each year. My parents paid the rest. I did not qualify for any government aid due to my parents' incomes so we had an agreement that they would cover any schooling that I could not pay myself provided I got decent grades and graduated in 4 years. I was very lucky.
Oh, I majored in Environmental Biology. I currently have a full-time job in my field, although it took a few years of part time work in my field before I got a full-time job.
I owe about $19,000 total. That is for my undergrad and my master's degree.
