My fiance and I are in plans to move to Colorado from Orange County, Ca. We want to find a nice city to raise our children in and own our first home. We are moving out of Ca to get away from the crime and overwhelming housing costs due to immigration.
If anyone has any info on some of the wealthier, nicer areas to live please let me know. Thank you!

How does everyone feel about CO Springs, Aurora, Littleton? I have heard they are some of the nicer areas in Co.

A 4000 sq ft lot would be easily attainable. a 4000 sq ft house for $400,000 would be a dump.
The Springs has some very nice neighborhoods, but it is a small city. Aurora has been discussed at great length in the Denver forum...Littleton is a misnomer of sorts - Littleton is the mailing address for properties in parts of three counties.
What sort of amenities are you hopin for? Is there a commute? What else is important?

There are private schools but unlike SoCal the government (aka public) schools in the nicer neighborhoods are generally pretty good.
We paid $680K for 6200 aqft on 2.5 acres (basement not finished and no landscaping so we had to chip in about another $85K) here near Monument (zip 80132) so your price/sqft numbers are in the ball park. It is very Republican - not that affects the price of bread...I don't care. We are about 60 minutes from DEN airport, 60 minutes from downtown Denver, 40 minutes from the Denver Tech Center, 25 minutes from downtown COS.
Around here check out Woodmoor, Jackson Creek, and some very nice homes in northern Colorado Springs (80920), Pine Creek, Ladera, and Wolf Ranch. More snow here than COS or DEN. Excellent schools, Lewis-Palmer D38. Many of the properties are 1, 2.5, and 5 acre lots.
Also check out Castle Rock and Parker. Nice places with up and coming amenities. Also check out Palmer Lake, a little more rustic with 100 year old homes intermingled with $800K homes.

Our population is around 400,000 give or take. The city is known for being more conservative. There are private schools w/ top rating academic scores. You can get a nice home here for $450,000. I will send you a private message w/ some of the homes you can get in that price range. From what you have said so far, it seems like it would be a good fit. bashep

I honestly think you should research this move a little more, since you don't seem to know much about the area. A trip out for fact finding would also be a good idea.
